rpfarris Posted August 27, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2023 When SilverSea ports in "Los Angeles" vs Long Beach, exactly where is the "Los Angeles" port? I live in Arizona now, but spent 50 years in San Diego, but I can't think of where the Los Angeles port would be. Thanks.

rpfarris Posted August 31, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted August 31, 2023 Thank you very much. I wonder why they don't use Long Beach. Maybe Los Angeles is closer to the airport.
jollyjones Posted August 31, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2023 Nope. Both San Pedro and Long Beach are many traffic choked leagues from LAX. And many of us international travellers have to use LAX rather than smaller closer airports. San Pedro is a dump with completely inadequate hotels. It’s very frustrating. Raiders4Life32 Posted August 31, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 31, 2023 (edited) Long Beach port is exclusively the LA port for Carnival Cruises. Carnival bought the old Spruce Goose dome/hanger and converted it to a cruise port years ago. There is only room for one ship to dock at a time. Most days, there is a Carnival ship docking there between the weekend and 7 day itineraries. The other space for mooring is permanently reserved for the Queen Mary. There just isn't room for anymore ships. If I were sailing out of San Pedro, I'd just stay in one of the nice hotels along the waterfront in Long Beach. In the morning for boarding, it's a quick 10 minute ride across the bridges to the San Pedro. Just my $.02... jollyjones Posted August 31, 2023 #7 Share Posted August 31, 2023 That’s exactly what I do - stay in Long Beach and get a taxi over for embarkation. But it’s still a long haul from LAX to Long Beach.
Rare JSR Posted September 1, 2023 #8 Share Posted September 1, 2023 In LA timing is everything. 30 minutes right now at 8:40 am from LAX to Long Beach.
jollyjones Posted September 2, 2023 #9 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Timing is when the plane lands. Usually mid to late afternoon - not my choice, just when the flight schedules/connections get me there. So you can imagine the traffic ...
