We just booked a cruise for 2025 that has an Athens stop.  This will be our first international cruise 🙂 If we book Acropolis tickets, how do we get there from the port? Apologies if this has been asked before.

My DH and I booked a driver to get us to the Acropolis as early as possible. She picked us up by the taxi line up for $35. Plenty of taxis there. She offered to pick us up later and do a two hour tour then take us back to the ship for $105. We were glad we did. Here is her WhatsApp number if you want to book directly with her.IMG_6320.thumb.jpeg.ec0488c387bf514ac8e07c31e8cf16b8.jpeg

Can anybody tell me about Combined Acropolis tickets?  Is it possible to go to Theatre of Dionysus  one day and go inside Acropolis the next day?  Does it stand separately of Acropolis?

Thank you.

No, you can't.  The admission is for the Acropolis and Slopes. The theater is on the slope of the Acropolis and within its grounds.  It is very easy to visit at the same time as the Acropolis. The combined admission is for other sites in Athens in addition to the Acropolis.

There is no more option for Acropolis only visit.

Interesting. Now the General Admission for 20 euros covers all the other Athens sites.  Good deal.

They must've just changed it.  I didn't see this option a few hours ago

20 euro covers

Access to: Acropolis & Slopes, Ancient Agora, Hadrian's Library, Kerameikos, Aristotle's School [Lyceum], Olympieion, Roman Agora

30 euros

What is the difference? Another glitch?

Ooops. There are two choices for General Admission. The first one is just for Acropolis and Slopes and it is 20 euros. The second one also lists the other sites and it is 30 euros.Yes, this is new.

What are the chances of getting a Saturday morning time slot if tickets are purchased onsite the day of? Any advice on how long the ticket lines are and how fast they move?

Slim in high season.  Why wait?

Has anyone had any issues getting a refund for pre purchased timed tickets? I purchased 2 timed tickets for the Acropolis on the 11th July for a timed slot on 17th July 2024 between 12.00 and 13.00 hours(earliest slot available when we booked). We arrived at 11.15am to be informed the site was closed between 12.00 and 5pm due to extreme heat.

I applied online on 17th July for a refund and was told the request had been sent to their financial dept but I am still chasing for the refund over 3 weeks later. Their terms and conditions state that if the site is closed due to force majeure the validity of the ticket may be extended or ticket price may be refunded. As we were on a cruise extension wasn't an option.

As we paid by credit card I have had to take the chargeback route, and am now waiting for that to be processed, but it should not have come to that.

We are on a port intensive cruise and not sure we will get off in Athens so an Acropolis visit will be a last minute decision. We will be there in the second week of September so not peak high season. I wasn't sure if some tickets are held back to allow for "walk ins".

That would be wishful thinking.

You could have a very long wait for tickets.

If you have never been to Athens  you should make the effort and see the Acropolis.  Get the tickets now.

Another Acropolis visit question! We will be visiting Athens in mid-October for several days prior to our cruise. I was wondering if we should try to visit the Acropolis early in the morning (e.g. 0800) to avoid crowds and heat, or if perhaps a visit at 0930 would not be so crowded and hot as during the summer.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

You should be ok. Pick midweek. The mist cruise ships are usually in port on the weekends.

I'm not sure that the Acropolis is that impacted by cruise ships. Athens is a big city (obviously) and ships are not necessarily dominant in the number of tourists present. Still, besides getting ahead of mid-day crowds, I'd recommend getting there before 1000 (as I did on a recent trip) to beat the heat as well. Definitely get a ticket on line with a reserved time. Also consider using the east (south?) entrance near the museum. Much less crowded and you get the walk past the theater area and all of the monuments on the south side of the hill.
