Hi Belle!

Greg does plan on being on the Pride in January. He will be going on vacation this year from early-August thru mid-September, then will be back on the Pride until at least March of next year.

Of course, plans can change, but that's his schedule as of right now.

Does anyone have a picture of Greg? I'm curious if he was on any of my previous cruises.

Kathy, thanks the link worked great. Be aware of what you put in your roll on ice chest. On the Pride they made me unzip and empty the entire contents to check that it was wine and soda. If you have any other type of alcohol pack it carefully and check it in. I didn't want to roll it onto the Ecstasy and I just packed it really tight with lots of grocery store bags to keep the bottles apart and it made it to my cabin with only one wounded can of club soda. Not too bad. I also used the cans of soda to put between the wine bottles.

Day 3- Fun Day At Sea

Well, we slept a little better last night. icon_smile.gif The purser’s desk kept saying that things would improve once we got to calmer waters. Today is an overcast day, darn! icon_frown.gif We want SUN! Our room service order was delivered promptly at 8:00 am as requested. Even though it was overcast, we enjoyed our breakfast and coffee on the balcony.

When I left the cabin, I noticed invitations to the past guest party at some cabin doors, but we did not get one. So, off to the purser’s desk where they quickly prepared an invitation for us.

I took off for the Internet café. Last night I had sent an e-mail to PV Pam. We had booked our canopy tour through her and I remembered that she worked at a hospital close to where the Pride docks in PV. I thought she might be able to help me with my prescriptions. She had answered and said she would try to help, and to come by and see her.

Because of the OCD person that I am, I went to cruise critic and posted a message to cruise director, Greg. I hoped to take a picture with him sometime during the cruise. Each time I tried to catch him after a show, he would already have scurried off behind the curtains. icon_wink.gif

My daughter had also sent an e-mail with all the information on my prescriptions. I’m making progress. Only a dumb blonde would forget their medications. icon_razz.gif So, after a losing game of bingo, I went down to the infirmary to drop off the information for the doctor. Hopefully, no one reading this review will need to go to the infirmary. But if you do take the elevators right outside of the Taj Mahal down to deck A and you will find the infirmary. I got to spend another $52 at the infirmary for a blood test. Damn, I’d rather blow the money in the casino or anywhere else but the infirmary. Besides Dr. McGeary and Michelle, you may meet Annette (New Zealand) and Olga (Canada). The entire staff of the infirmary was so friendly and helpful.

Back at the cabin, we had a delivery from the purser’s desk after my complaint about the noise and the vibration. Excuse my language, but they sent me an f------ fruit basket. icon_mad.gif First, we already had all the fruit we could eat on the cruise, just like everyone else. Second, a lot of the fruit was already over ripe and most of it got thrown in the trash. I thought if they were truly sincere in their apology, they could have given us a small ship credit or a token discount on a future cruise, but I got the damn fruit basket. icon_rolleyes.gif I still plan on sending an e-mail or letter to the head honcho at Carnival. Enough there. Even though I was irritated, I would not let this in any way interfere with my enjoyment of the cruise.

It wasn’t even noon yet, but we saw that we were cruising by Cabo San Lucas. We had a nice view from our wonderful balcony. All of a sudden, the ship took a small turn in direction and the balcony was suddenly full of sunshine- glorious sunshine. icon_cool.gificon_biggrin.gif We ordered room service for lunch and out to the balcony we went. We enjoyed over three hours of lying in the sun on this large, private balcony. So, we had noise and vibration. I wondered if I could ever go back to a standard size balcony. I had taken bungee cords of various sizes, a large wedgie and a strong magnet so that we could prop our balcony door open. Not a one of these items was needed. The door would stay open on its own and the air conditioner stayed on. Wow! What luck. icon_biggrin.gif And behind the balcony door up high was a water nozzle. When it got to warm out on the balcony, our own private shower to cool down. icon_cool.gif

While Barry went to the gym, I got ready for the past guest party. When I got there, Greg Kneale was standing next to the Captain. We had our picture taken together and he introduced me to Tori, his assistant, who he affectionately calls “Pit Bullâ€. icon_wink.gif Each past guest received a Carnival Pride pin. Even though Barry did not attend, they still gave me his pin.

We went to the show, Swing Time, in the Taj Majal. It was enjoyable but not nearly as good as the show the night before. Tomorrow we will be in PV. I can hardly wait.

I am slowly working on getting the pictures on webshots.com but it will take several days. With a digital camera, I take way to many pictures.

Hiya Kathy!

Quick tip on WebShots links. The ones you've been posting are the links you see when logged in to edit your own gallery. These addresses are only good for the owner of the gallery to view.

What you should do is, after you finished uploading the pictures, click back on the "My Photos" tab at the top, then click on the link that says "Your Public Community Homepage" That will take you out to the starting point for everyone visiting. Now navigate to your picture by clicking first on the album, then on the picture. The address up in the address bar of your browser when you see the picture, that is the one you can post here for everyone to see.

Tip: If you see a "/s/" or "/scripts/" in the address, then it probably won't work. But if it has a "/photo/" then you're probably good to go.

Thanks again for the great reviews and photos! Keep 'em coming dear! icon_biggrin.gif

This is going to be our first cruise. Trying to take in everyones great ideas.

We are coming from the East Coast and are arriving the day before. Could do a run to get one before.

Thanks for helping me.

Thanks for the excellent review - you and Mark have done a wonderful job. I look forward to the next installment. Mark - thanks for the pics of Greg......haven't sailed with him before - but really happy to hear such rave reviews on him as a CD. We're flying out from the East Coast also - so I guess we'll have to buy one of those cute roll - on coolers after we arrive ( WalMart I assume?????) We're taking three days to drive down the coast from SFO - so the cooler will come in handy anyway. Once again - thanks for the great reviews - keep them coming. PS: After the cruise - I'll be staying in Long Beach for the US Olympic Swimming Trials - I'm a HS Coach and I have several of my kids swimming for a chance on the team.......GOOOOOOO Providence Panthers.

Day 4- PUERTA VALLARTA

I woke up around 4 am but I felt very rested. I went out on our glorious balcony and laid on a lounge chair. It was a full moon and a clear sky. It was beautiful. It was very humid so I was sure we were getting close to PV. We had vacationed there about 10 years ago and I really remembered the high humidity. I couldn’t go back to sleep. So, I stayed on the balcony and enjoyed the sunrise. IMHO a balcony is a necessity. I love having the open space right there at my cabin. I don’t think I could take a cruise without having a balcony. Watching the full moon, the sunrise and our docking in PV was a great way to start the morning. Having the wraparound balcony, I was able to see most everything.

We had booked a canopy tour through PV Pam. Barry would be doing the actual canopy tour and I would just be a ride along. The price booking on our own and paying cash was under $60 for Barry and only $12 for me. It would have been over $100 each if we had booked through Carnival. I am a coupon shopper and I am always looking for a way to save $$. We would have to take our own taxi to the pick up spot, but it was still a $ saver.

Our tour was scheduled for 11 am PV time or 10 am ship time. But, off I had to go to the infirmary. More blood tests and the doctor again checked my heart rate. And here I thought I could avoid doctors on vacation. Leave it to this occasional dumb blonde (my son says it’s actually the bleach) to be the one that forgets the medicine. I could just kick myself. But, I am on a cruise and loving every minute of it.

We caught a taxi right outside where the ship was docked. I’ve heard you can save money by walking a few blocks to catch a taxi at reduced prices. But, sometimes it isn’t worth saving a buck or two. We first stopped at the hospital, but PV Pam was in a meeting. She left me a note and I left her my prescription and said we would stop by later.

The taxi driver had waited while I went into the hospital and than took us off to the Pemex gas station. It was about a 30-minute ride. Across the street from the canopy tour office, there were dogs playing on the roof and barking up a storm whenever someone came near. It was rather humorous.

The ride in the van along the coast was so enjoyable. We saw a lot of PV that we hadn’t seen on our previous trip. We went by Los Arcos, which is a great place to snorkel and where “The Night of the Iguana†was filmed. The canopy tour begins way back in the hills. Our tour was with Los Veranos. Barry went off to get ready for the ride of his life and I went and sat at a table under a shade tree and by a small stream. The tour actually lasts about 90 minutes. I could see people flying across the wires so high in the sky but everyone yelling and sounding like they were having a good time. I even spotted Barry flying across the wire. The wire where everyone finished was right by where I sat so I could see them on their final approach. He said that there were a few scary moments on the tour but it was a wonderful experience. He even saw a LARGE iguana.

After returning to the tour office, we caught another taxi. I popped into Hard Rock Café for a moment to get the souvenir requested by my daughter. Two young boys selling the usual chicklets saw me hobbling out of the taxi since I didn’t want to take the time to get my walker out of the trunk. They were so cute! They each held an arm and escorted me into HRC. After finishing my shopping, they escorted me back to the taxi. They definitely earned more $ for this than they would have if I had bought chicklets.

We ate lunch at the Blue Shrimp that PV Pam had recommended. If you love shrimp, this is a place to go. But, it is a little pricey. $50 for two lunches, 2 diet cokes and 1 margarita. The shrimp fajitas that I ordered were wonderful. I spoke with PV Pam while we were having lunch. She is a friend of the owner. She was off to another meeting but thought they could help me out with 2 of my 3 medications. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to meet up with PV Pam. She was so helpful in planning our day in PV.

Barry and I went our separate ways. He went for a long walk along the El Malecon (boardwalk) and I went off on my search for medicines. Yeah, it was always on my list of vacation activities to do. If you have never been to PV and El Malecon you may want to take some time to visit it. It’s a beautiful area and there are a lot of nice places to shop.

http://www.virtualvallarta.com/vallarta/information/definitions/malecon.html

I flagged down a taxi and off I went to the hospital. As I always seem to live by Murphy’s Law icon_biggrin.gif, the hospital did not have any of the medications. The taxi driver was helpful and spoke English very well. Just a short trip away, there is Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club. You can actually see them from the ship when it is in port. So, if you need something, remember they are right there. At Wal-Mart, I finally got 2 of my medicines and it was time to head back to the ship.

When the taxi driver dropped me off at the Pride, I ran into Greg waiting to meet a friend. He actually gets some time off! Pay phones are right there where the ship docks. I called my Mom to check on Dad. He was to have hip replacement surgery today and I really needed to know how things went. He was doing fine, a little cranky, but that was normal. icon_wink.gif So, I knew everything was fine.

We both made it back on the ship around the same time. We were skipping early dinner tonight because we had such a large lunch. Barry went to the gym (of course) and I checked my E-mail and cruise critic- remember I’m OCD.

Prior to our setting sail, we grabbed a late dinner on the lido deck and brought it back to the cabin and ate on the glorious balcony. We had a little rain just before we set sail. We stayed on the balcony and waved good-bye to PV once again. We’re now on our way to Mazatlan.

I’m still working on pictures all. I hope to have them all ready to post by Friday. Since the governor (I work for the state) has given us the day off, I will have a lot more time to finish up the pictures. icon_smile.gif

Day 5- Mazatlan

I am sleeping better now. icon_smile.gif Maybe I’m just adjusting to the noise and the vibration although it is not as bad as it was the first night. I did wake up around 3:00 am and went on the balcony for a while. I sat on a lounge chair and the next thing I knew, I was asleep. I’ll take the sleep anyway and anywhere that I can get it.

I woke up about 6:15 am and had already missed the sunrise. icon_frown.gif It looked like we were going to have a clear and sunny day. icon_cool.gif We had tentatively reserved a jungle cruise in Mazatlan, but had decided last night to skip it if we had a sunny day. After we had docked, we did opt to spend the morning on the balcony and soak up the sun. It was so relaxing and therapeutic. icon_biggrin.gif While we were sunning, we got some laundry going. The launderette was right across from our cabin- couldn’t have been more convenient.

We got ready to go into town but grabbed a quick bite first at Mermaid’s Grille. Their Reuben sandwiches are delicious. After disembarking in Mazatlan, we had to pass the gauntlet of time-share sales presentations. icon_eek.gif We blew them all off but not before pausing to pick up some free bottled water.

We picked up a taxi, $10 to the Golden Zone. The taxi was small and uncomfortable and took us through some very poor and run down areas of the city. We both agreed that we liked PV much better. When we got to the Golden Zone, we walked along the streets browsing through the stores. Same and same old tourist stuff, so we didn't spend a lot of time there.

We walked to some stores that went back from the street and the next thing we knew, we were by the beach. There was a small restaurant just at the edge of the beach and I grabbed a table. I sat and drank Margaritas icon_smile.gif while Barry went from a long walk along the beach. As much as I love the beach, a walker does not do well being pushed through the sand. When he returned, we sat and drank some more and bought a nice shawl from a peddler on the beach to send to his mother in Iran.

When we left the restaurant, we flagged down a taxi. Remember if you get a taxi in Mazatlan; opt for one of the open air taxis. It was roomy and comfortable. Our driver spoke a lot of English and told us a lot about Mazatlan. He drove us along a lot of the beach area and then offered to take us up on a small hill where we could get a beautiful view of the Pride in port. Of course, we were interested. The view of the ship was breathtaking. One of my favorite pictures that I took on the trip was from this hill top. Yes, I am getting close to finishing up the pictures. The taxi ride, narration and tour we received was so wonderful, we gave the driver $25, much more than what he was charging but this was the best part of our trip in Mazatlan.

We went back to the ship and elected to relax until dinner. Dinner was wonderful as always. After dinner we chose to just take it easy. Because we were back early, our room steward was still straightening up our room. Stanley took the time to talk with us. He has a wife and children in Costa Rica. He generally works 8 months and then spends 1-2 months with his family in Costa Rica. He has been with Carnival for over 9 years and hopes to retire soon. That must be awfully difficult on the family.

We decided to call it an early night. Tomorrow will be Cabo San Lucas. We are hoping for lots of sun. icon_cool.gificon_cool.gif

Day 6- Cabo San Lucas

About 6:15am, we were approaching Cabo San Lucas. The purser’s desk said the forecast for the day was 82.4 and sunny. icon_cool.gif This is my kind of weather. By 8:30am, we were on the balcony and lying in the sun. icon_cool.gificon_biggrin.gif

I guess the tender trip into Cabo can be a slow and tedious process. They give priority boarding to cruisers who booked early tours and everyone else must sign in for a boarding group number. Every so often, Greg (#1 CD) would come on the speaker and announce which boarding group could board. It took bout 10:15am until the crowds had dwindled down enough that you no longer needed a boarding number, you could just board the next available tender. Again, we chose to spend the morning lying in the sun. For us, it was no contest when we had the choice of standing in line to wait for a tender or take advantage of the sun. icon_smile.gif

Now, here is where the real dumb blonde reared its ugly head. icon_eek.gif LOL Before going to Cabo, I wanted to put up a new punch balloon on the balcony. I hoped we could spot it when we were on the tender. I searched the desk, the dressing room area and drawers high and low and couldn’t find the bag with the three remaining punch balls. They were not that important but it drove me crazy that I could not find them. So, I pulled out all our suitcases to see if I had put them away. I finally pulled out the last of the 4 suitcases at the very back of our large walk in closet. This suitcase was full of a large quantity of zip locs that I had used in packing. Underneath, I could see some color and yes, there were my punch balls. icon_smile.gif But, what a surprise, when I reached in and also found my MEDICATIONS! icon_eek.gif They were there hiding from me all this time. Bad medications! icon_mad.gif LOL I guess when I first went looking for them, I was already starting to panic and didn’t search as thoroughly as I thought that I had or I just had another blonde moment. So, now, after spending $252 icon_rolleyes.gif in infirmary bills, plus about $20 in medications at Wal-Mart, I have all my medications. Another lesson learned, maybe I will pack two sets of medications, one in my bag and one in the bag of whomever I travel with on that cruise. So, I got to visit the infirmary and add another memory to my cruise. I was glad that the infirmary was there so I could get the help when I needed it. Yes, I spent a lot of money there that turned out to be unnecessary, but the piece of mind the help they gave me was priceless.

After getting ready, we had lunch on the Lido deck and went off to board a tender. There was no line at the tender and one was waiting there for us to board. icon_smile.gif For anyone who has any physical problems, Carnival staff and the operators of the tender are very helpful and offer a lot of assistance. I had someone on each side holding my arms and helping me with the transition to the tender. They walked me to a seat on the tender and loaded my walker. Without there help, this trip on the tender might not have been possible. So, even if you have some physical problems, definitely consider the tender trip and give it a try. I was so glad that I did. icon_biggrin.gif

Once we got to the dock in Cabo, there were people offering taxis. I needed to do some quick shopping for DD and DS (HRC and Cabo Wabo respectively) and then we wanted to go to the beach. We hired a taxi (van) for $40 for one hour. Cabo is more expensive than PV and Mazatlan but it is wonderful. icon_cool.gif I got my souvenirs and off we went to La Playa (the beach). There was a bar at the end of the beach where I sat and had multiple margaritas icon_wink.gif while Barry went for the walk along the beach. See a pattern here, Barry walks for exercise and I sit and drink. LOL This bar was right across from the Pride and I could observe this beautiful ship and watch the tenders running back and forth. There are a lot of water activities here- parasailing, personal watercrafts, etc. So, check it out if you are interested. I enjoyed watching everyone and it was a great way to pass the time.

We didn’t want to wait for the last minute rush so we headed out to catch a tender back to the ship. The ocean was getting a little rough and we were bounced around quite a bit but it was still a nice ride. After boarding the ship, I went by the infirmary. We all had quite a laugh when they learned I found the medicines. icon_rolleyes.gif

Tonight was formal night #2. Dinner every night on our cruise was wonderful and

everything that we could ask for. As soon as dinner was over, I changed back to casual

resort wear and headed towards the TM for tonight’s show, Vroom. I always went down

early to get a good seat for the show. We preferred to sit on the far left and the third row back. Greg learned that he could always find me in that area. Sure enough, Greg came

over and sat with me for a few moments. It was a nice touch having a few moments to talk with Greg and if he reads this, thanks Greg for everything. Barry arrived and Greg had to excuse himself to go get ready for the

show. I mentioned that I had to make a quick run before the start of the show because

I had been warned by Mark NOT to leave for the bathroom during Greg’s show. We both chuckled. I made it back just before the show started. Suddenly I hear Greg’s voice saying “Now

that Kathy is back, we can start the showâ€. LOL icon_biggrin.gif This show was the best one we saw on

the cruise. There is a lot of singing and dancing and I highly recommend it.

Tonight, is the gala buffet. Neither of us are hungry, but I do want to go for the photo

opp. The artwork that they create with food is unbelievable. Even if you are not

planning on eating later, and I wasn’t, it’s worth going to the photo opp to see their

artistry.

Tomorrow will be our last full day of the cruise. I don’t want this cruise to end… icon_frown.gif
