What can I expect if I choose not to do a Princess shore excursion? Can I just sunbathe and swim for a few hours? I presume the tender will return regularly to the ship and I won't have to wait hours to get back?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes you can, in fact, that is what we always do at Mystery Island. There is not much on the island, it is just a small atoll. The locals from a neighbouring island will come across and set up stalls and the school children will sing. You can buy drinks and snacks, have your photo taken with the cannibal pot and warriors. You can snorkel, swim or just lay on the sand.

It is about a 15 minute tender trip, so tenders are arriving and leaving regularly. Just don't leave it to the last minute to go back to the ship, as it will be very busy. We usually go in the morning, snorkel, swim walk around and go back to the ship for a late lunch.

Thank you - exactly what I wanted to know. Is there any shade on the beach?

There are trees that will give you shade. Google Mystery Island images and you will see what there is.
