We're from the Northeast and travel a lot.  Travelled with our children during school breaks.  Over the years and from being on a lot of different travel chat boards I found out that "some school" was on either Winter or Spring break starting the second week of February through the end of April (our school was off the last week of February and the last week of April).  It also seemed like a lot of schools were off either the week before or the week after Easter (which changed every year) and college spring breaks mostly took place during the month of March.

 

We now try to completely avoid that time frame if we can.

I've also learned to check the schedule of the ports. 

Don't cruise out of FLL when there is a boat show.

Avoid NOLA during mardi gras.

Etc., etc.
