Just Back From March 9 Century

Just got back yesterday 9 day Century cruse - had a blast. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Boat is in beautiful shape, food was superb if not the best I have had on any cruise line. loved Aruba! Entertainment left a lot to be desired however. Higher # of seniors than I expected on the boat, and many lectures, etc. geared to older crowd. Had the BEST table on the ship and met 8 wonderful couples who we ended up spending the entire cruise with. No complaints here. Again, any questions please don't hesitate. We visited Aruba, Curacao, G Cayman and Ocho Rios.

Thanks for letting us know. Aruba is one stop I've never been to.

How about stand up comedy, any? Anyone good? Where did you sleep?

So, I guess my nights will be free, huh? Did you spend any time in the casino or was it dead in there? Any good movies in the theater? WAs the CD dullsville?

Nine days will bring more retirees out but I doubt that will happen to us. They sold our sailing 3/26 CHEAP in the end. We'll have some youth on board I bet. Probably just what we need.

As long as the food is good and the weather warm I am ready for Sunday.

Thanks Sandra

Hi Sandra !

I was on the same sailing. We had a FANTASTIC time. The comedian was a disappointment, but it may be someone else when you are onobard. The movies in the theater were pretty good, but I do not waste my time with them. The Casino was not hot at all, but they never are on Cruise ships LOL. The food was as good as ever. Also the CD was just so-so at best. The usual CD on Century (Allan King) is much better, but he is on vacation now.

I also have some comments on another thread on here. Any more questions ? feel free to ask.

Yes, we spent way too much time in the casino! Always pretty packed when we were there. Had better luck there than I did at our hometown casinos in CT. They had 1 or 2 blackjack tournaments also. Top prize was about $325 I think.

Had an outside cabin - everything in tip top shape. Great room steward brought us fruit everyday and a tray of cookies at night.

Entertainment consisted of a xylophonist (first I had ever heard on a cruise ship!). We did not go and see him/her but heard the music from outside the theater hallway. Nothing I would recommend, unless of course, you are a big fan of the xylophone. Had a "world famous" pianist "Xiang Jiang" (sp?). Again, didn't hear him personally but saw people buying his CD's like hotcakes in the lounge. Bingo - did not go but heard final payout was $2800 on final day. Reggae Pool band very good. Went to one show only - "Best of Broadway" - nodded off and then left halfway throught. Was a far cry from Broadway. Went to Michael's Piano Bar - excellent piano player/singer. Went to Karaoke one night - ok.

Thanks Andy. I read your review too.

Gotta say this does not paint a pretty picture for nightime hot spots.

I like the casino to spend time. Usually like nickels cuz we know who's gonna win.

Believe it or not I am NOT a big xylophone fan. Not since my fischer-price model anyway. That one was fun.

We can only hope Alan is back or there is some new blood aboard. No fear. I can make my own fun!!

Hi Gypsea and Sandra !

Overall, I thought the entertainment was quite good. I did see all of the shows. The "Dance Around the World" show with the Celebrity singers and dancers was absolutely wonderful. Many of these dancers were on the ship last time we were on, and they are outstanding.

As for the featured entertainers, they were all good. The xylophonist was Ralph Heid. Tian Jiang (the pianist) was incredible. He played a song and video called "Shanghai Dreams", that I am still playing in my head. I wished I purchased his CD. The comedian, Fred Klett, was not my cup of tea at all.

Overall, I was very happy with the entertainment.

Was Bruce Kidd the CD?? I really liked him on our cruise...I thought he was the best we had ever encountered.

Shame about the comedian, we had "the ladder guy"...he was VERY good. Ralph Heid was super. What an amazingly skilled musician.

Gald you had a great cruise....

Hi Dan !

Yes, the CD was Bruce Kidd. I didnt dislike him, but he was totally invisible the entire cruise. The only time he was seen, was at the show and on his daily TV show. In his defense, he is probably VERY busy with getting ready for the drydock. We also liked Ralph Heid very much. Although I have seen the ladder guy like 5 times, I would have rather seen him again, over Fred Klett.

As you know Dan, Celebrity really knows how to do it right. That's how good the Cruise was.

I was also on this cruise and thought the entertainment was wonderful. A lot of people thought that most of Fred Klatt's stuff was staged. I enjoyed both Ralph Heid (I wish I could play anything as well as he can play) and Tian Jiang. I agree with Host Andy, Tian's music is still playing in my head also.

Host Andy, I enjoyed all the information you shared at the party. It really helps having someone around with your knowledge.

We had a nice backstage tour with three of the singers and dancers and to see the space they have to get ready for the shows you wonder how they do it. Knowing the conditions they work under helps you appriciate the things they are able to do.

I was also impressed with the staff. I saw some passengers giving some of the crew a hard time in the buffet line a couple of mornings. The staff did not bat an eye and did not take their frustrations out on the next person in line. Some of the passengers could take lessons from those gentlemen.

We were also on this cruise and I will try to finish up my review of both the ship and our excursions later on this week. We had family chaos the day we got on the ship and came home to another family choas so I'm going to be a bit behind on getting that up I'm afradi.

We actually saw Bruce many times during the cruise. It may be though that we were just in the right place at the right time.

I loved Ralph Heid. I think that if you just heard the music it wouldn't be the same, you really had to see him perform to get the full effect. I didn't really care for the first dance performance "Shout", but the others were enjoyable. The second afternoon concert by Tian Jiang was even better as the sound system seemed to be clearer during that performance than during the evening one (at least from where we were sitting).

We made our own entertainment by bringing games with us and playing with both some of the people we'd met on cruise critic as well as some others who just asked to join us.

We loved the cruise and enjoyed both the food and the company of our tablemates and other cruise critic friends. We had some minor glitches in our stateroom, but Celebrity handled them very well we thought.

I'll write more later.

mcgovernsandra:

Thanks for taking the time to write your review.

I love large tables also. I'll have to look into getting a table like yours--atleast 17 at your great table, huh?! (8 couples + you).

Century is one of my favorite ships!!:D

We had the pleasure of being at Dinner with Sandra and Brian. There were 8 of us. 4 couples at our table. Sandra was usually seeing two of each of us, thus the 8 couples...LOL- JUST KIDDING!! My husband and I also felt the entertainment had A LOT to be desired and we too, left 2 of the shows early. We really lucked out with our table as they made our trip THE BEST!!! Already starting to plan next years reunion cruise. After reading the posts on Celebrity, I have to say that I was quite disappointed. We were in cabin 9033 and our cabin steward was Francisco. To be honest, I think he said MAYBE 5 sentences to us the entire 9 day trip (everyone else RAVED about their's). Anyone else on the 9th floor have the same experience with Francisco? Sandra told me that her cabin steward fanned her pajamas out for her one night. The next night, I left my pajamas laying on the bed, folded ready to be transformed. I came back to find them on top of a pile of dirty clothes. Like I told my tablemates...my cruise was NOT going to judged on my relationship with my cabin steward but after reading this site, I expected so much more!! Where my cabin steward fell short, our FAVORITE bartender on the ship, Melbourne, from Jamaica, made up for it. He was the best. He knew our room numbers by heart...knew our favorite drinks, even though we tended to switch things up on him quite often. When our group got seperated, he magically knew where the others were and brought us together! He was so much a part of our experience and is in a majority of our nighttime photos!! Make sure you tell Melbourne that Jill & Popsie, Sandra & Brian, Martine & Yves and Ginger and Walter said hello and that we miss him!! You won't go wrong with Melbourne, the bartender. This was a great ship. I am 38 and felt that is was a much older crowd and felt more comfortable on Royal Caribbean but the ship was awesome...the food great! Did I mention that they had the BEST tacos that I have ever eaten? I WOULD go on Celebrity again and would love to see Century after she goes into drydock. Any questions, feel free to email me or post here. Don't miss the Stingray City tour in Grand Cayman...a truly once in a lifetime experience. Don't waste your time at Dolphin Cove in Jamaica!!

well, I can say all the food I tasted on the boat was INCREDIBLE. Did not taste the tacos, probably due to the fact that Jill had scoffed down about 9 or 10 of them before the lunchtime rush was over, and no one had a chance to get near the tray of them!!! LOL!

Don't miss the omelette station, Belgian waffles with fruit, Kaimkazes, lobster tails, mojitos, BEST COSMOPOLITANS in Images Martini Bar, loved the 6 Martini Sampler for $9.95., any kind of pork in the dining room, cold fruit soups, and the best Caesar salad bar on the pool deck. I am gaining weight just thinking about it all.

Oh, and did I mention, the BEST Cosmopolitans in the CaribBEAN??
