sansterre Posted December 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2023 We will be in Hong Kong for two days, staying on the cruise ship overnight. DH would like to get some shirts made while we are there. Any recommendations for a good tailor? Preferably we would like one near the cruise port - within walking distance, or a short taxi ride would be great.
BruceMuzz Posted December 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2023 The Best Tailors in Hong Kong moved to Shanghai right after the handover in 1997. Now the best you can find are either extremely expensive, or are Indian sweatshops with poor quality cloth, single stitching, and very little customer service. When I was living in HK, the local papers had a big story on custom made clothing. They claimed that the best quality and lowest prices could be found at Brooks Brothers in New York ?city.
shecritic Posted December 15, 2023 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2023 Sorry to hear the tailoring scene in HK isn't what it used to be. A couple other options to consider though - have you checked out Ap Liu Street Walk? It's about a 15 minute walk from the cruise terminal and usually has some tailor shops that might work for a couple shirts. Also maybe ask your cruise line concierge for recommendations - sometimes they have contacts for tailors used to working with passengers' timelines. Hope you're able to find something that works with your short time in port!
