Visit to Churchill War Rooms

We will disembark from a cruise in Southampton on 28 August 2024, and plan to spend some time in London post cruise.  While there we plan to visit the Churchill War Rooms.  I have 2 questions related to our visit;

  1. How long should we plan for our visit?
  2. If we pre-purchase tickets for a specific time window/slot but for any reason are several minutes late, will our pre-purchased tickets be honored?

I'd rather pre-purchase; but, if the time windows are rigorously enforced (as I suspect) i think I'll need to purchase at the door.  there are 4 of us if that matters.

Thanks for your assistance and patience,

Greg

There are plenty of sights  within a few yards of Churchill's War Rooms including Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament / Big Ben, Parliament Square, 10 Downing Street (Prime Minister's residence), the Cenotaph, Horse Guards Parade. And St James' Park is right opposite

So plan to arrive early - if you're not delayed have a peek at one or two of those.

When you plan to visit will still be during school holidays, most schools return early in September so London will be very busy. I would definitely buy tickets in advance to guarantee being able to visit, we pre-booked tickets and still had to queue for a short time last year. The Churchill War Rooms are worth visiting and take up to a couple of hours to explore. As JB said, there is plenty to do nearby, adding to his list there is also Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.

  • 4 weeks later...

Definitely pre book as they even sell out out some days. I think if your polite and just a little late you will probably be fine - they are just trying to get an even flow through and probably have a little wiggle room.
