Tinyburst Posted January 1 #1 Share Posted January 1 Hello all, First time MSC cruisers. Previous cruisers in NCL Haven. We are trying to decide whether being outside the Yacht Club in a larger duplex suite is worthwhile. The extra space and larger balcony certainly appeal. However is the fact that you are outside the Yacht club reduce the benefit? How easy is it to get from deck nine to the sun deck and restaurant? Thoughts and advice greatly. Two Wheels Only Posted January 2 #2 Share Posted January 2 (edited) I've never sailed in the Yacht Club while outside of the Yacht Club complex but I have sailed on a few occasions in the Haven while outside of the Haven complex. In fact, my preferred location outside of the Haven complex is on the complete opposite end of the ship while on the Breakaway/Breakaway Plus class (aft-facing suites). I considered the Duplex Suites on Meraviglia once those became Yacht Club suites (they were originally Aurea) but that was when I had the Royal Suite already booked. The 2nd bathroom was tempting but in the end, we stayed in the RS and I'm glad that I did. If the choices are Duplex or Deluxe, I'd go Duplex all the way. I understand that the location (deck 9) may make you feel like an outsider (*gasp*, "interloper") but there shouldn't be a need to feel that way. A quick shot up to 18 and you can enter on the the same deck as the Deluxe that you are considering. Getting to the sundeck is a small jump up from there. If there are any available, there are also Duplexes on deck 12 to feel a little bit closer to the enclave. You'll have a hot-tub on the balcony with the Duplex that you won't have on the Deluxe balcony. For World America, I booked my first ever Duplex because I wasn't happy with the balcony on the Royal Suites. The Duplex balcony isn't great but the upper balcony on that ship was the difference. For Euribia, I'd put the Royal Suite first then the Duplex. The Royal Suite balcony on Euribia is larger than the Royal Suite balcony on Meraviglia so the gap between Royal and Duplex is larger than for what I was considering. The gap between Duplex and Deluxe is the same for either class but for me, it would be an easy choice......take the Duplex and get in a few extra steps before entering the Top Sail Lounge/restaurant/sundeck of the Yacht Club. dexddd Posted January 2 #3 Share Posted January 2 We've stayed outside YC in YC rooms twice. It does feel a bit strange but quick jaunt up as those rooms were all forward, Really liked the duplex for just DW and I. We've also been in a couple RS with four and it would be nice if they had a second bath. If just two people though, the price for duplex or higher tough to justify.
Tinyburst Posted January 2 Author #4 Share Posted January 2 Thank you, very helpful replies. My instinct was telling me to go for the duplex, but the extra ~$1500 was holding me back. However I know that I will value the extra space greatly, so I will go ahead and book the duplex.
Av8tor Posted January 2 #5 Share Posted January 2 I've read that YC butler service CAN be a bit slow/lacking if your cabin is outside the enclave, Just something to consider....
Leandros Posted January 3 #6 Share Posted January 3 We have just been in cabin 12005, I have written a detailed review. Our cabin was on deck 12/13, where the YC concierge is located in 16. We felt bit outside, as we did not see our butler, other than delivering breakfast. I suppose the will not be better on deck 9/10. When we have been in the YC enclave we had much more interaction with butler/concierge. In Port days we walked directly to disembarkation than up to 16 and then get escorted. For us, it was not big problem, as we are DIY people. If it would have been our first cruise in YC we would not have been spoiled like our first two cruises inside then YC. Anyway, we would always select a larger room outside, than inside.
