What to do - St. Thomas

Almost identitical to a post I just made in the Tortola forum.

I went to St. Thomas last year and took a catamaran out into the bays and did some snorkeling (not the best I've done, but it was a nice boat ride). I'm back again this year on a cruise with NO sea days. I am debating what I want to do while in St Thomas that I can do mid-morning and won't take up my whole day so I can enjoy the quiet ship since my other days are filled with ports I've never been to before. Are there any town areas that are easily accessible and aren't just tourist traps? What would you recommend for 2 or 3 hours in the morning? Is it worth leaving the ship to explore?
