Grand Princess - crab shack and fresh seafood

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the crab shack is still a restaurant within the buffet on the grand princess during Alaska sailings?

If this is still a thing, does anyone have experience going here?  Is the seafood served here fresh from Alaska and similar to what we would get by going to a local restaurant at a port of call?  Is the seafood here fresh from Alaska and higher quality compared to what’s served in the dining room and other venues onboard?

We love seafood and are looking to try as much fresh authentic Alaskan seafood as possible while going on our first ever trip and cruise to Alaska.

Thank you.

Crab Shack

Crab Shack is a "pop-up" restaurant that is housed on select evenings in a cordoned-off area of the buffet on Alaska cruises only. The Crab Shack serves a vast array of seafood specialties in a casual and nondescript atmosphere.

The cost for Crab Shack is $30 USD per person, and additional pots of crab are $10.

We've done it once a couple years ago, on Grand actually. It's probably still up in the buffet. Nowhere else to really put it. It was solid. Good food, they give you a bib and you pig out on seafood/crab. We left full. I would do it again if the mood strikes.

If it has to be fresh seafood, you have to find a ship with a “The Catch by Rudi” restaurant.

"the restaurant’s menu features The Daily Catch—the freshest, sustainably sourced seafood from local ports of call."

The regular MDR seafood comes from the cooler / freezer. Same with Crab Shack I guess.

So you have to choose the Enchanted, Majestic, Sky or Discovery to find this restaurant.
