Does the train from Le Havre to Vernon not run every day? I’m trying to find schedule for June 7th and it shows it’s not on that day but on June 8th, could it because schedule isn’t published yet?

on another note, how easy or difficult is to rent a car or take a taxi from LeHavre to Giverny? Any taxi company recommendations?

thanks

Given the travel time and distance, and if planning to spend time in the gardens in addition, a taxi driver would love you hiring him/her for most of the day. You could expect that to cost $$$ although driving there would be the fastest option.

Thinking you are too early to view timetables for train travel as they won't yet be released.

You might want to pre-book a timed entry on the official website and maybe read reviews for tips as this attraction will be busy, particularly so if June 8 is a Saturday or Sunday.

Renting a car, to go to Giverny (and other places) is a good option if you are comfortable driving.  We have rented cars in Le Havre, a few times, to explore various parts of Normandy.  The biggest hassle can be getting from the port to a rental car agency (it can be a long walk or the problem of finding a taxi for the relatively short local fare).  There is one rental car agency at the port (at least they used to be at the port) which is rentacar.fr.  In the past, we have generally not used this agency because we had some issues with their pricing and insurance options.

Will US driver’s license allow to rent and drive?

No problem with a valid US License.  However, it is always wise to go over to a nearby AAA office and purchase an International Drivers Permit.  While technically not required in France, it is a handy document to have in the event you would get stopped by the police for just about anything.  The IDP is valid for one year and it is simply a matter of AAA taking your photo and sticking it into the document.

The other issue with renting cars in Europe is how you want to handle insurance.  In Europe, the rental car companies do provide some mandatory insurance (within the basic rental agreement) but it comes with a high deductible.  You can buy extra insurance (similar to the way it works in the USA) or some will choose to use the excess insurance provided by some credit cards.
