Anyone have any trouble carrying on a 22"?

22 is the max you'll find any airline to allow. Many have smaller limits (21 or 20).

 

A big consideration is if you have it bulging (using expansion zippers) and heavy. A lot is in the perception of the agents. Further, you may not be able to get it in overhead bins if you aren't early on to the plane.

From Atlanta to Rome. Don't know the airline yet. Will not receive the tickets(cruiseline arranged)until 30 days prior.

You're likely to be on DL....shouldn't have trouble. Alitalia is a stickler.

 

Think of it this way - if you get an airline with a tougher standard, you still have time to go out and get another smaller bag.

 

Suggestion -- if it is just for this one trip, look at something inexpensive at Marshall's....they have a surprisingly good selection of various carryons in different sizes. Get the lightest bag you can find.
