May 2024 US-UK Transatlantic crossing: Shorts or long pants?

We're going to Manchester to see Eric Clapton and getting there on the QM2 in May.  Is it generally warm enough for shorts/skorts/swimsuits on deck during the day?  Or should we pack a down jacket/hat/gloves/long pants for deck sitting?  We try to travel with carryons and one suitcase to share, so attire is a concern for us.  Thank you!

I'm originally a Manc (from Manchester) and I would love to tell you the weather will be warm and sunny, but Manchester is in the UK.

 

If you're fortunate, it'll be 25C and sunny, you'll need sunblock.

 

If you're less fortunate, it'll be 10C and raining with an overnight low of 7C.

 

So, regardless of the weather on the crossing, you most likely will need warm clothes to survive the summer in the UK.

Do not plan for balmy weather in May while crossing the North Atlantic.  The weather is still cooler in early May.  You might luck out in late May but the North Atlantic is very unpredictable.
