PleasantTime Posted March 8 #1 Share Posted March 8 Barbados Bridgeport Cruise Port Taxi - BEWARE!! They don't go by the official posted rates that you see on the sign at the port. When you get to your destination they will charge 3 times the price or more and tell you it's because you have a lot of bags. If you ask what about the posted rates they will get in your face and argue you with you. They will also pack multiple passengers in a van so even if you want to stand your ground, the other passengers will be inconvenienced. It is a miserable experience and more expensive than getting a taxi in the most expensive cities. 1
blue_water Posted April 1 #2 Share Posted April 1 @PleasantTime - ALWAYS confirm the price BEFORE accepting a ridge. And if the driver gives you a hard time - look for another driver. That miserable experience is on you
PleasantTime Posted April 3 Author #3 Share Posted April 3 I agree 100% with @PleasantTime, it was my fault for trusting they would go by the official posted rates at the cruise port. I wish I had never seen the official rates because it would not have led me into a sense of trust. If I had not seen the official rates I would definitely have done exactly what at@PleasantTime suggested. Nonetheless, I found several of the Bajans extremely arrogant and don't ever plan to go back to that island. There's so many other islands in the Caribbean with warm, friendly, welcoming people that it's not worth time going to place with a poor attitude towards tourist. That was just my experience, hopefully it goes better for future visitors.
blue_water Posted July 1 #4 Share Posted July 1 (edited) We met sooo many warm and friendly locals on our first two visits to beautiful Barbados, @PleasantTime hopefully you have another opportunity for that. And spending more time in these destinations gives you a chance to meet residents and make friends and get a better feel for the culture of course. 🙏🏼 Edited July 1 by blue_water

We confirmed the price before getting in, and still the driver tried to scam us into paying more. We were getting dropped off at a hotel for a resort day pass. We gave him what he originally asked for and told him if he continued to harass us we would call the police. He left quickly. Had we not been dropped off in "civilization" not sure how this would have ended. The hotel told us this happens pretty frequently. It is NOT the fault of the passenger. Always confirm the fare before getting in. if you get a dishonest driver who threatens to hold you for ransom, start recording, and if he locks your door, get ready to kick the window out. Friends and neighbors of ours in Mexico have had worse experiences, we all know how to react, many will not…If you are in a secluded are travel as a group if possible Edited July 3 by blue_water
