Leaving ship and airport transfer

Our cruise finishes at 8:00 A:M and our flight is not until 5:00 P:M. Are we able to take our time departing the ship and arrange to be taken to the airport with our transfer later in the day? Would the transfer people be able to keep our luggage until we leave?

Most cruise lines will require you leave the ship before 11 AM or so. They need to get the ship ready for the next cruise and there will be people boarding for the next cruise by Noon or so. You will probably be responsible for finding something to do with your luggage until you can check it in for your flight. Some cruise lines at some ports offer a day tour the day the ship docks that then lets you off at the airport so you can make your flight with your luggage.

 

Check with your TA or cruise line for your options.

Most of the time, the cruise ship is empty by 10am. They need to prepare the ship for new passengers, who start arriving at 11. If you have the ship's transfer, it will be only in the morning----they don't have afternoon transfers to the airport unless you sign up for their ship sponsored tour. With that, they put your luggage on the bus, you do the tour, and they take you to the airport in the afternoon. If you don't do their tour, it's all up to you. You cannot check your luggage at the airport, for a domestic flight, more than 3 hours prior, so that's not an option. You can rent a van for the day, put your stuff in there, and tour the area on your own.

I recommend booking a post-cruise ship tour. That will make the most of your day, rather than sitting around the airport waiting for the time you can check your bags.
