bluefish17 Posted March 28 #1 Share Posted March 28 Have an upcoming cruise out of Miami on Prima and am fortunate to be in Haven. I'm wondering how the Haven check-in is, particularly baggage drop off. I know the Miami porters are aggressive about grabbing bags. Since I don't have a color printer, I'd like to have NCL put on my luggage tags. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

They are simply indicators for ship, not cabin category, so do not worry about the color. Black and white printer is fine. Also, for baggage drop off, just give your bags to any of the porters. They are all great and will handle the bags well (I usually give them a $20 bill and we've never had any issues for what it's worth). In Miami, you will be met at the entry to the terminal and up the escalators then to the Haven check-in to the left.
Rare cruiseny4life Posted March 28 #3 Share Posted March 28 (edited) We cruised out of Miami just over a year ago. As you are, we were in the Haven. Our Uber driver dropped us off and we walked up to a porter. We forgot our luggage tags at home, so asked the porter for a tag for our bag (we only had one to hand over). We filled out the tag and stuck them on. We tipped the fellow $2 and off our bag went, to be seen again later that evening! Super easy process! vacation44 Posted March 28 #4 Share Posted March 28 You should have luggage tags mailed to you since you are in the Haven. Just put them on your luggage right before you leave for the cruise terminal.
david_sobe Posted March 28 #5 Share Posted March 28 Those fancy Haven luggage tags make you feel special but I dont think they mean anything. If your ship and cabin number is on your tag it will find its way to your cabin no matter the color or fancy gold trim that says "HAVEN PRIORITY." To my knowledge there are no special Haven luggage handlers. They all board together and then separated by deck.
valleyvillage Posted March 28 #6 Share Posted March 28 We like to drop off at the far end of the terminal where there is a special Haven entrance. It's on the west side of the terminal building, if I recall correctly.

As a Haven guest, you should receive your luggage tags in the mail about 50 days prior to departure. They will be solid magenta color. If you don't get snail-mail tags, just print your tags in black-n-white. The magenta color only designates that you are on the Prima. And it will be the only ship at that terminal. There are no Haven bag drop areas. Just give your bags to the first porter that approaches you. There is only one entrance to the terminal. BUT,,, there is a special check in outside the doors for Haven guests. They will escort you to the elevators going to the second floor (versus using the escalators with the steerage passengers. There is a dedicated security screening station inside the Haven check-in area. There is one entrance, with a Haven line to the left As you exit the elevator, you will be at the entrance to the Haven check-in Haven Waiting Area Compared to steerage waiting areas below
bluefish17 Posted March 29 Author #9 Share Posted March 29 Thanks Bird, very helpful pictures. I recognize that lower waiting area from a long ago trip on Escape. Obviously never seen the upstairs Haven area.

What happens if you haul all your luggage to this line, rather than leaving it with the porters? Same as hauling your bag to steerage. Your bags have to fit through the x-ray scanner. Haven is more manual X-ray. Steerage is fully automated, so you bag has to fit in the bin. You still have to haul it to waiting area. (For the Haven, you will either have to carry your bags up the stairs to the waiting area or use the elevator… that will slow you down as the mass of people are escorted down the stairs to board). You have to go back downstairs, the turn right ( If I remember). Just go back upstairs when finished. There are elevators that can take you up/down if mobility is an issue.
