Since RCCL and Celebrity docks in Bayonne, they will routinely go up do a circle around the Statue of Liberty and then go out to sea. I saw that also and thought it was unusual.
Mike A Posted April 28 #27 Share Posted April 28 Given the fact that they sail from Bayonne, if they did not do this the passengers don’t get a good look at the Statue of Liberty at sail away. They can only do this when tidal conditions and the NY Port Authority permits. Captain Kate started this when she was Captain of the Celebrity Summit.

We sailed Oasis of the Seas last fall and loved seeing our beloved Gem from the Concierge Lounge while we were in port in NJ. We could see the Statue of Liberty from where we were ported too. Cape Liberty is so easy to get to, i almost wish Norwegian had the foresight to claim it! @Radio, thanks for taking us along. Definitely following. Have fun!!

I'm considering driving in for our cruise next month, but don't want to get there and not be able to get parking. Thanks! Enjoy! There is plenty of parking at the pier but it is expensive. I am from New Jersey and I Lyft or Uber in because it costs less to get there and come back than to pay for parking for the week.
Rare Radio Posted April 29 Author #31 Share Posted April 29 (edited) Hello everyone and good day. Norwegian Joy has left Manhattan, NYC, and is on her way to beautiful Bermuda. MSC Meraviglia will be ahead of us on this Bermuda voyage but will arrive on Tuesday. Norwegian Joy will arrive on Wednesday morning and will only be traveling about 10 kts. I'm not sure how many passengers are on board, but I think we may be at capacity. Embarkation day is always the busiest and most stressful day of any Cruise. I'm sure things will start calming down as the night progresses. I have a standard balcony solo cabin on the starboard side of Deck 12. It is a basic cabin and it has all the normal cabin amenities. I like the fact that it has a glass shower with no curtains. It is a little strange that there are no drawers anywhere in the cabin, but it does have many shelves in several places. Here are a few pics from entering the terminal and on board Norwegian Joy. Thanks for tuning in. Radio I approached the Lincoln Tunnel which would take me under the Hudson River and to Manhattan. I'm not sure why, but I really don't like the Lincoln Tunnel. I drove by a Carriage Ride on 11th Avenue and 42nd Street And I can see my home for the next 7 nights. Norwegian Joy is a beautiful ship. Workers are busy prepping. The terminal was crazy busy but I was able to make it from this point onto the ship and only 15 minutes. I don't think I remember this terminal having food vendors. This photo props before you board And away we go . . . Almost there. . . Norwegian Joy from New York Port webcam (PTZtv) . Rare rrraydon Posted April 29 #32 Share Posted April 29 Following along. Although I've been to Bermuda a number of times, I haven't been in quite a few years. I'm interested to see how things have changed. Thanks for taking the time to bring us along!

We sailed on the Joy the week of April 14th, and parking at the pier was full when we arrived just before 10:00. Only vehicles with reservations were allowed up the ramp, so we had to use the alternate garage on 43rd Street. We have cruised dozens of times out of NYC and never had issues parking at the pier, but staff told us that Pier 88 and 90 were scheduled for some construction starting last week, which was why they were temporarily limiting the number of available parking spaces. A few years ago preshutdown, they had a stand against the wall with basic items situated midway through the terminal. Have never seen a food truck. Interesting Also for a short time they had ship store items for sale in the terminal; caps, Lanyards, mugs, etc.

Rare Radio Posted April 29 Author #43 Share Posted April 29 Hello everyone good morning. Welcome to DAY 2 of "LIVE" from Norwegian Joy. Norwegian Joy left New York a little before 4pm. yesterday. The temperature was in a low 70's but it was a little cloudy with no rain. The Casino opened around 6pm, I had to check out how things were. I like the fact that the slots will be open all night long for the next two nights until we arrive in Bermuda. While we are in Bermuda the casino will be open from 9pm until early morning. I went to dinner last night at the "Q" Texas Smokehouse, and it was very good. I was able to enjoy a nice brisket with a side of jalapeno grits. The grits we're good but very hot. There was a live country music band playing that played very well but the volume was a little loud. This morning I am co-hosting a Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle at the District BrewHouse at 11am. My co-host has put together several small raffle gifts for some attendees. Here are a few pics from last night in this morning. Thanks for tuning in. Radio The Statue of Liberty We passed under the Verrazano Narrows bridge. "Q" Texas Smokehouse There was plenty of room in here. My brisket was wonderful Joy Casino offered playing cards and dice for sale. 6-7-8 Atrium DECK 6 Early morning on DECK 16 The sun was starting to come up. There are only a few passengers up this early. The Observation lounge on DECK 15 is very quiet. I love that there is a full Starbucks kiosk in the observation lounge. .

I may try to get to Q if I can't get a Cagney's reservation. I haven't seen (or noticed) used cards for sale before. When I first went to Las Vegas the casinos would give away the used cards, as well as cigarettes and cigars. But that was years ago. The cruise lines aren't the only ones nickel and diming there customers.😬

Hah. I agree. When they first put them out I kept asking where the creamers were. Took me awhile to realize what they were as we were used to the little cups.
