Norfolk to Virginia Beach?

Recommended Posts

We're going on an East Coast cruise stopping in Norfolk for about 12 hours on a weekday in late June. Thinking about going to Virginia Beach, but:

  1. 1. Is there easy Uber availability to Virginia Beach from the cruise port and vice versa?
  2. 2. Google Maps says Virginia Beach is only 20 minutes away from the port, but I searched here and someone said it would take at least 40 minutes?
  3. 3. Would you expect it to be extremely busy? Hard to get chair/umbrella rentals?

Thanks

It's not abundant but it does work. Just build in a little extra time-- wait time could be more like 10-15 minutes instead of right away.

Traffic.

Umbrella and chair rentals are readily available at spots up and down the beach. A costlier, but much more fun option, would be to see if you could get a day rate at either the Embassy Suites or Marriott Oceanfront-- both provide you access to the Cavalier Beach Club that has chairs, a pool, restaurant, and bar.

This would be the best way.

  • 4 weeks later...

If a day rate seems high you will find chairs/umbrellas for rent along the beach. There are also showers for rinsing feet on the boardwalk. And plenty of bars and restaurants with covered terraces for drinks, food, people watching. The boardwalk is quite long.  There is also a bike lane that runs parallel to the boardwalk and bike rentals.
