Live from Noordam - Alaska May 26 - June 9

Across the hall from Billboard is the casino. Kind of an awkward place for it I thought. It was nice that the 2 music rooms didn't clash sounds though. Former Lincoln Stage is unsigned and empty.

I've just caught up with your trip & enjoying your posts. We are back on Noordam in November this year in Asia after two weeks last year in Australia & New Zealand  - one of our favourite cruise ships.

Enjoy your trip.

The rave review stops at dessert. I ordered the creme brule. It was not good. The custard was broken, and the sugar topping was wet. Definitely not worth the calories!!

Creme Brule is something we save for the Pinnacle! I am glad to hear you said no to a bad table.  There are quite a few of those on the Noordam.  Good for you!!

We are docked in Ketchikan, overcast and about 45°F. We are doing the Saxman Native Village: Dance Performance and Totem Park. It doesn't start until 10 am, so we had a Lido made to order omelet for breakfast. Shared a table with a fellow who said his wife's suitcase didn't arrive and she was hoping to get it today. Very limited clothing options in the shops! I hope her suitcase arrives.

Do you know if the free city shuttle goes to Saxman Village?  That is how I read it, but I could be mistaken.  Also looks like Lindt chocolates on the bed, did you bring your own, or did the ship provide that?

"Humanity" was playing in the theatre, it was about half full.Rolling Stone was standing room only, and Billboard Onboard was full - 2 pianists.20240527_204413.thumb.jpg.3a9faf3c67664f6ed648280a974223d5.jpg

I was wondering if the Step One dance shows were still popular.  We’ve seen “Humanity” at least four times through the years.  ☹️

As soon as we got off the ship it started raining, of course. The meeting point for ship tours is just off the ship. Staff hold signs and people just kind of wander around them looking for the right tour sign. When our bus arrived, we were greeted by Jet, a young man of 23 on his 3rd summer working in Alaska. He lives in Utah and putting himself through university there. We had a short bus ride, and he pointed out a few things. I didn't realize that the island was of volcanic rock, with a layer of thin topsoil.

Once we arrived at Saxman Indian Village, we had a short walk to the Clan house, site of the clan dances. It featured dancers wearing capes emblazened with their family symbols. One woman danced with an infant on her chest. A child of the same Mom also ran around while they danced, as is their custom.

Had lunch at Dive-in/taco bar, when hostess Betty recognized us and came over to say hello. We last saw her on Rotterdam in Feb where she was hostess at Club Orange. R'dam was her first contract and she liked it; has since been home, and just came to Noordam 10 days ago. We quite like her. Told her about the MDR table they tried to give us last night when she wasn't at the podium. We won't have to worry anymore!

Spent an hour in Crow's Nest just after sailaway, for scenic commentary by a wildlife expert. We saw absolutely nothing!

DH had the daily special, rockfish. Our waitress wasn't sure where it was from when we asked, so she actually talked to the chef, he came to our table, and said it was fresh Alaskan rockfish! I had the braised short ribs, one of my favourites, along with a glass of Decoy cab. It was so good. I prefer these braised ribs to the CO daily special ones. DH likes soup, and is disappointed Canaletto removed it from the menu. No problem, the waitress brought him a bowl of soup from the Lido! We had the salad, which was a bit lackluster, lots of candied almonds but very short on gorgonzola. Then we had the burrata and it was excellent. The tomatoes even had flavour, which I didn't really expect this time of year. For dessert, I had affogato and lemon ricotta cheescake. DH had gelato.
