Shareholder OBC as a solo

Recommended Posts

I didn't realize until today that NCLH shares held in my IRA would count as Shareholder OBC.

1) Is that correct - it can be held in my IRA?

2) Two of my next three cruises are as a solo in a solo balcony.  Ready about shareholder OBC on nclhltd website, it says "Singles paying 200% are entitled to full onboard credit value."  Any clue how much my credit would be sailing in a solo balcony on a 7 day cruise?  It says "$100 Onboard Credit per Stateroom on Sailings of 7 to 14 Days."

3) I already purchased premium internet for both cruises, but could cancel and purchase on board to use up my credit.  I have purchased excursions for one of the cruises but could follow the CC advice to cancel at the shore excursion desk and then repurchase.  I do have the FAS $50 excursion credit for both cruises.

I understand that this is non-refundable and can't be used for daily service charge, CruiseNext, or gambling (although I did read mixed reviews on Bingo - but I think Bingo has been overpriced)

Any other tips?  Thanks!

Yes, the shares can be in an IRA. You just need a statement showing you own 100 shares, the date and you black out all the sensitive stuff.

I think that a solo paying for a solo will still count, although I'm not 100 percent sure when it comes to the new solo balcony types. But I get my shareholder OBC on Studio Cabins. The 7 day is $100 non-refundable OBC. (A fun part with booking an excursion on board with the shareholder OBC is that the $50 credit is refundable. Then it can be used for more stuff.)

On the NE/Canada cruise, I used it for a $69 excursion that I booked on board. I lucked out and a spot opened. That left $31 of non-refundable OBC and after the excursion, I got the $50 credit as refundable and use it for CruiseNext. I used the rest of the $31 at specialty dining.

On the PoA, we were hard-pressed to use it but bought souenirs for people at the shop on board.

For my upcoming cruises, since I'll need internet, I'm going to wait 2 days for the internet plan price to drop and then buy it using the OBC.

I just cruised solo in a balcony cabin on the Joy - 7 day cruise. I got the full $100 OBC for my Ncl stock. I used it to pay for my unlimited wifi.

I have gotten the SH OBC as a solo many times in the past. In all of those times, they only applied a partial credit once, on a many years ago on cruise where there was a partial solo discount. I've gotten the full credit for everything else, even on cruises where I paid no solo supplement.

I am in a solo inside on my upcoming Joy cruise and got the full $100. Never gotten anything less when I have paid for a studio up to a Club Balcony (with no solo supplement). While you can't use it for gambling in the casino, I have in the past used it for Bingo (would not pay out of pocket because it is very overpriced for what you win).

Also the way to get non refundable cruise credit is take in casio chips....walk around the casino and then cash then in for the cash.

I always travel solo in my cabin and it's $100.  I think it may have been reduced once when it was a weekend cruise but it's $100 for a 7 day.
