Sorry to hear. Hopefully you’ll make it to the ship in plenty of time.

1.5 hour delay. No big deal. We meet the ship Friday, so no effect. It's a great ride.

Will be on the train in the opposite direction in a few weeks. Hopefully we will have the little engine that could.

We did the Bergen to Flam to Oslo on our own after the Viking Homelands cruise ended in Bergen. Booked through Norway in a Nutshell (recommby Rick Steve’s 😊).  Stayed at Bergen Bors hotel, great location, outstanding breakfast buffet in a beautiful setting. Did the ferry Gerainger fjord ferry (spectacular views), stayed in Flam one night at the Flamsbrygga, nice hotel with great pub and decent breakfast. Train to Oslo was totally worth the time and money. Stayed at the Thon Opera hotel, ridiculously easy walk from the  very impressive train station.

Oslo was the biggest surprise from our trip. We LOVED IT and were so glad we spent time there. That whole “deviation” was one of the highlights of the whole trip!   You will not regret choosing this option.
ps. Train station in Oslo to get to the airport was quick, cheap and so easy.

I had considered the Flamsbrygga Hotel, until I read the review that pointed out that cruise ships dock right there and block the fjord view. Good thing we didn't book there because there was a cruise ship in town when we got off the ferry from from Gudvangen. It left at 6pm and it was amazing how suddenly the town was so much quieter.

We stayed at the Fretheim. It is a bit more upscale and away from the noise of the pier. The only thing it lacked was a/c -- but then again, neither did the Thon Opera . It just is not a standard feature in Norway.

Unless you need to buy your airport express ticket in the station (senior rate available; good for 90 days; no reservations needed) from the Thon Opera you can get to the airport train without having to go thru the train station. Exit from the second floor of the hotel (turn left out of the elevators) and right out of the hotel. You see lots of cars in front of you; careful as you dodge your way across. Once you clear the the cars, turn right immediately and then left down the wide ramp (follow the crowd). Stop to read the signs so you know which platform leaves next; then continue straight then right down the ramp onto the platform. Took me longer to type the instructions than it does to walk them.

Caveat: the airport train is not a good idea if you have more luggage than you can handle by your self on and off the train. There are no porters. There are steps on and off the train.

Caveat: you will need your train ticket to exit the platform at the airport. Keep track of it.
