ocride13 Posted June 10 #1 Share Posted June 10 Hello, We are traveling on the Regal Princess with a stop at Dublin (Dun Laoghaire) from 7A-7P. We will need to take a water shuttle to port. We are interested in doing a tour to Kilkenny, Glendalough and drive through Wicklow Mountains. Has anyone done this route? Was there enough time or are we cutting it too close? Thank you in advance for your input.
gaeltrav Posted June 12 #2 Share Posted June 12 This is a bit unrealistic knowing Irish roads as there is no motorway from Dublin to Kilkenny. You would have plenty of time to visit Glendalough, Powerscourt Gardens, Mount Usher Gardens ,Avoca and the Wicklow Mountains. Although Ireland is a small country the country roads are narrow so it is important to remember if you can only drive 30mph you can only cover 30 miles in an hour! Rare VMax1700 Posted June 12 #3 Share Posted June 12 Dun Laoghaire to Kilkenny would take just over two hours driving, using M50 and M7 and M9 ( @gaeltrav the 'M' stands for Motorway 😉) and is about 150 kms (just over 100 miles). The speed limit on the motorway is 120 kph (75 mph) Return via R702 (a country road) then M11 and finally M50 to Dun Laoghaire.Driving directly will take just over 2 hours and will pass close to Powerscourt, Glendalough etc. This is of course presuming you have a car! p.s. distances and speeds are measured in kms and kph in Ireland. You can buy a litre of fuel (petrol or diesel) but its a pint of beer 😉
