Harbour20 Posted June 16 #1 Share Posted June 16 Has anyone played golf in mid July while docked at Dockyard? We will be there on Wednesday, Thursday and leave at 4:00 on Friday. I will have to rent clubs. Looking for recommendations and if it might be too warm to play in afternoon. Can you book while on the ship or best to book on my own? Advice is welcomed. LImom Posted June 16 #2 Share Posted June 16 @Harbour20 check out https://www.portroyalgolfcourse.com/ (Port Royal golf course) they have cruise ship special w/club rental. Hubby is playing there in the beginning of July. He called the course to arrange tee times. Course isnt too far away from Dockyard.
Harbour20 Posted June 16 Author #3 Share Posted June 16 Thank you Limon, I have already gone to the website and want to sign up but was wondering if anyone knew how warm it can be as the package doesn’t begin until after 2:00. It is a great price.

Unfortunately can't predict the weather but June is usually less humid than July and August but expect 80 to 85 in the afternoon. . SueMo Posted June 17 #5 Share Posted June 17 The temperature will probably be mid 80’s. Port Royal sits next to the ocean so there will be some nice sea breezes. We’ve golfed at Port Royal several times in the past (usually late August/early September) and found out that the NCL ship (we were on Celebrity) has a morning excursion which takes up a chunk of tee times, so mornings might be out. I’d take the 2:00 pm deal.

It is private but they will allow a limited number of tee times for non members if you call and ask nicely. You need to call yourself. They also have a private beach and beach club which is fantastic if you golf early.

It is on the other side of Bermuda than the Dockyard and it is more expensive than Port Royal.

Port Royal has some nice holes but its a more modern course and doesn't have the same charm that Mid Ocean has.
Harbour20 Posted June 17 Author #9 Share Posted June 17 Thank you SueMo, that information was helpful. We will be on Celebrating and there is a NCL ship there the days we are there. I live on Hilton Head and have played in warm weather (90) but not when the humidity gets too high. I am aware of Mid Ocean but it might be too far for me without my husband. I have read their website and the guest fee is considerably higher. I can see that it is a beautiful course. I have played some beautiful courses on Hilton Head with water views as well. It is on the other side of the island so there's that, but you can take the ferry to St Georges. And it is more expensive but you get what you pay for here-- Port Royal is nice but it's a corporate/resort course and feels that way. There's something very special feeling about MOC-- regularly ranked in top 100 in the world. It's worth the extra effort and expense if you are inclined. It does cost more but it will be cooler.
SbbquilterUT Posted July 14 #12 Share Posted July 14 We have played Port Royal and Turtle Hill - this trip we are repeating Turtle Hill knowing it could be very hot/humid so challenging par 3 makes me happy.
SueMo Posted July 15 #13 Share Posted July 15 My son was on a cruise last week and played at both Mid Ocean and Port Royal. Mid Ocean charged $275 ($100 less than their normal $375 because of green aeration) for a 1 pm tee time. He and his companions took their clubs with them (ferry to Hamilton, then taxi to the course). Between the hassle of getting there (he said he would rather pay the big $$ and go by taxi the entire way if he were to do it over) and the high greens price, he said he probably wouldn’t do it again from the Dockyards. On the other hand, Port Royal cost only $75 for a 3 pm (twilight rate) tee time, and the taxi ride there and back were pretty painless. The course was in decent shape. I’ve played at Turtle Hill several times in the past from the cruise ship and found it to be very nice for a par 3 course. However last year we found it to be in rough shape compared to prior visits—greens and fairways had a lot of dead grass and bare spots. The grounds just weren’t as nice as they have been in the past. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that the Fairmont Southhampton is no longer open.

My husband is in the hospital. Maybe some day.

LewesBeach Posted July 22 #16 Share Posted July 22 We will be in Bermuda mid November on the Sky Princess repositioning cruise. Anyone have an idea of the weather in November for golfing?

Much better than in summer-- you lose the intense humidity but as Charles said-- still usually in the 70s.
