Ran into the new decorative art piece that transforms between the decks of stairway A 😉

(Does this now mean Queen Anne is officially “broken” in?)

Sorry, behind the times.

Similar artwork on display in a lift, stairway B in May.

The artist must have done a job lot! 🙃

A wet and rainy day in Copenhagen for most of the day yesterday, so the morning was spent getting some work done.

We left at around 3pm when the weather cleared and took the shuttle bus into town, where we had a 30 minute walk to see the Mermaid. Followed by some ice cream and a water-way walk back to the shuttle bus.

Dinner was freshly made pizza from the Artisans Food Hall while we watched the movie Independence Day in the Pavilion.

Today the weather has been lovely, but seems to be getting a bit worse now.

Lunch in the Britannia restaurant for the first time was lovely, though felt very full after leaving.

Left lunch for the low limits in the casino, and utilised the full hour to build up some cash I don’t mind losing later on with the regular limits.

As well, as it’s just popped into my head. 2 nights ago was the CWC Cocktail Party.

There I was speaking to Chris, the loyalty and sales manager, who mentioned that they plan to switch the entertainment offering in Queen Anne every few months.

A real great improvement in my opinion, having seen the Queen Mary 2 shows so many times. I’m sure the new stage equipment helps facilitate more & different performances.

Hello, when they show a film, or sports etc in the Pavilion Pool area, how is the sound controlled? Does it boom out over the whole area? Just wondering as we’re cruising on Queen Anne soon - thank you for any replies 😀

The roof was closed when we watched the Pavilion screenof an evening  so wouldn't have thought it a problem for others. Roof open, don't know.

Now I think about it, that was fairly clever. I was there during England's football game against Slovakia, which had a dramatic final 10 minutes. The noise level was pretty much correct around the pool and seating areas, due to the careful distribution of multiple loudspeakers, probably 2 dozen plus. Each loudspeaker therefore didn't need to be that loud, they only had a fairly small aural footprint. But as soon as you were away from that area, say by the Wellness Café upstairs on deck 10, the sound fell away. I remember being on deck 11 at the end of the match (I'm rugby not soccer) and I could hear the spectators on deck 9 cheering, but not hear the TV sound at all. So I knew the result from the passengers, not the TV. Anyway, the acoustics are well designed and managed, the sound does not boom everywhere.

I know Im hard of hearing but the sound was often too quiet for me and hard to follow.  No subtitles.

The night we went, earlyish and still light, it was pretty draughty.  People were taking pool towels to wrap round.  In fact we watched for a while and gave up. Its probably better in warmer places.

Viking Cruises, for example, supplies earphones for sound and a blanket on each lounger although I havent experienced this myself.

Following my last post and only just reading this, maybe the poorer sound quality for us was that we were sitting in the wrong place, on one of the balconies.

On deck 10? Quite possibly. It's quite reasonable sound volume around the pool itself on deck 9, but it you look upwards a bit, you will see the loudspeakers and can position yourself accordingly. Incidentally did you have problems in Royal Court Theatre? I noticed the loudspeakers were mainly near the front, the sound at the back was much lower in volume.

Yes deck 10 and away from the screen.  We sat there as it was more sheltered and were not alone.

RCT.  I had problems here too but thats me.  OH found it fine.  We sat in the front section - to see!   I am always happy with the sound quality on the other 3 ships.  I noticed QA was different.  I have 2 aids, controlled by an app using bluetooth.  The volume was fine and I can control it anyway, up or down (useful if you want to turn some unwanted noise off or down!).  My problem was a sort of echo making speech in the talks sometimes a bit garbled and difficult to follow, marring enjoyment.  This can happen if there is too much electronic relay.  We didnt see any shows in the theatre simply because we were eating or not keen on a particular event.

Hi all,

I am on Queen Anne in Estonia. My overall impressions-Ship design and appearance-MEH; general arrangement- peculiar; interior decor inconsistent; service levels-uneven; food quality-obvious quality cutbacks, portion diminishment, variety not great; maintenance - good; crew-still settling in-many clearly not happy and many experienced members prefer other ships in the Cunard fleet. The new sommelier uniforms -bizarre. Cunard strained, spent and stressed for four long years and brought forth a formulaic ‘cruise ship’. A Cunarder by funnel color and name only.

I’m very happy that portions are small. Can therefore have 3 tasty multi course meals a day, plus a cream tea. Will result in much less food waste.

Went to Copenhagen last December. Little Mermaid was a little disappointing. Nyhavn area nice, river cruise was good Tivoli Gardens at Christmas … hmmm

Least favourite of the 5 Scandi capitals we’ve been to..

@Pushpit I actually found it a bit trickier to get round as well. Found QM2 much more straightforward (can’t see the problem with QM2, the only “funny” is the art gallery on 3L, everything else is straightforward)

One bit of bad design on QA is the area around the casino, to walk past it is a narrow gap between a slot machine and the railing. That’s really quite bad.

I have to thank you profusely for this tip. I don't normally go to the Royal Court Theatres, I prefer the Queens Room on the whole, maybe Commodore, but based on the above snippet I went along to Imagination tonight in the RCT and it was really very good.

Like several other QA shows going around, it's probably best not to describe it too much, but it was an interesting performance, combining the music of The Clash, Bowie, Queen, Coldplay, Public Service Broadcasting, Sams Ryder and Fender (and yes a sample from Stormzy!). The performers were a credit to themselves, their Company, Cunard and the performing arts in the UK.

Sam Fender is a little obscure in that company. The “Southshields Springsteen”. All British acts?

I think the first part of this performance was staged to the backing on London Calling by The Clash, yes it has a very British music overtone which was intrinsic to the act, but I think can understood by passengers from other countries. Bowie's Space Oddity came out in 1969 so you would have to be over 90 years old to not know at least some of the music. Sam Fender is a bit more recent, but he is very much North Shields, that's um, more than a detail around these parts. I think anyone under 40 would know him (and I'm older than you!).

Oh. NorthShields not South. Oops. Saw him supporting The Killers. Was great once the mixing desk had turned the drums down.

If you want to see the play it was only on one evening right at the start.

Enjoy the huge amount of deck space.

So, apart from all that, us everything else okay?

I don’t think it can be the same ship you and I were on.

But seriously, our difference re Grills Lounge aside, this was obviously a light-hearted review of an entirely different vessel.

Hi all!

Sorry for the lack of updates, been super busy sorting things out back at home and enjoying the rest of the trip.

Tallinn was a wonderful little port, that I’m surprised we were able to dock in. It was very windy, so much that the ship rocking woke me up. We were even rocking once tied to the quayside.

Helsinki and Stockholm are both joint contenders for my favourite port this trip, both lovely to walk around and explore - made even better with lovely weather.

Docked in Kiel today, taking on a lot of new passengers. Lobbies full of suitcases!

We are waitlisted to stay on, but as of Monday we were 8th “in line”, so I doubt we will get it.

Here are some pictures I’ve taken over the past few days.

Slowly getting better at archery as the cruises go on.
