AARP Onboard Credit

Does anyone know if both my spouse and I can enter our (separate and different) AARP membership numbers and each receive the OBC?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

FYI, each AARP membership can be for two people in the same address. So I add my mother in as my 2nd. She also receive AARP OBC for her room now.

Apparently it is not combinable with casino rates? Can anyway make sense of that to me?

it’s coming from aarp not holland isn’t it?

HAL is giving your a credit for being an AARP member. AARP is not paying HAL.  Think about you - you pay AARP $12/year to be a member. Why would they give $100 to HAL every time you book a cruise???  It's like the healthcare or teacher credits - HAL gives those.  Your medical employer or school district doesn't pay HAL for your credit.

While the casino organization may pay HAL something for your deeply discounted casino rate, my assumption it's not the full difference between what you pay and what someone booking w/out casino would pay. Most likely it's some agreed-upon amount, similar to what your insurance pays to your doctor vs the crazy high amount the doctor would charge YOU if you didn't have insurance.

What do you mean by casino rates? I book casino rates all the time. This gives me a 20%-30% discount depending on the cruise. I am able to add the AARP OBC to these reservations. I could not to my free casino cruise.

I verified my AARP number logged in to my Holland America account, and booked a cruise a few days later.  Can I use that credit before I get onboard towards a shore excursion, or is it only available once I am onboard?  Also, where would I find that credit within my booking?  Thanks so much for any help you can give.

You cannot use any onboard credit prior to boarding on HAL. I have not found a way to break down the OBC within my booking. I know how much I have and it is there but not itemized.

Your total OBC (sometimes not including TA-provided credit) is found only in your booking confirmation. You can request a new copy to see if the new OBC is there. ETA: Request from whichever you booked -- PCC, TA, or HAL operator.

As Grandma Anne said, you cannot spend OnBoard Credit before you are onboard, but many have reported buying excursions or specialty dinners ahead of time and getting them transferred to OBC once on board.
