He figures more widely nowadays as an answer to exam papers by candidates who think they are being witty, and begin, ‘Mr. Kipling wrote exceedingly good poems’, echoing the wording of the TV ad for Kipling’s Cakes.

He may have done in the past. Last time I tried any they had shrunk and were dry and tasteless.
