Anyone get a "bad"cabin after booking a guar?

Back in '92 when I was naive about cabin location, we took a "run of the ship" similar to a guarantee on the Jubilee. Well, our cabin was waaaaay up front which wouldn't have been too bad....BUT on the last day and night we ran into VERY rough seas and we were pitching like crazy! The front of the ship was literally coming up and then hitting down really hard. Of course, our cabin being up front, was really taking the brunt.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, my husband and I had never been so seasick. We just had to stay in bed all day or make trips to the bathroom. We could barely get our suitcases packed to put outside the door. That's before I knew about Bonine or that midship was a much better location when it comes to less movement. Thankfully, the seas had been fairly smooth all week until that last day. Just the opposite of my first cruise which started out rough. I'm amazed I cruised again after those frist two cruises! Well, it wasn't for another 8 years! But, we've been lucky to have fairly smooth sailing AND I do not book anything but the cabin I choose myself---midship or close to it. :p

I hear the good about being upgraded, but did anyone get a really less than desirable cabin?

It's funny that GoodasGold had her less than desirable cabin on the Jubilee. That was the same ship for our less than desirable cabin.

In May, 2003, I booked a 1A guarantee on the Jubilee. This was a surprise cruise for my daughter. She thought we were going to Galveston and to the beach. Plus my mother- and father-in-law as well as my MIL's mother were going.

As noted, we booked a 1A just to go as cheap as possible. We were bumped to a 4C. The cabin was way in the back of the ship. There was a constant sewage odor in the hallway but fortunately not in the cabin. During the night we cruised between Cozumel and Calica, the ship rattled so badly that I didn't sleep from about 2 a.m. on. Around 5 a.m. I got dressed, brushed my teeth and headed to the Pursers' desk. I explained to the person on duty about the awful rattling in the cabin. She said that was normal. When I told her that it was so loud that I couldn't sleep, she responded that she has to live on the ship with all that noise. I told her the difference was I was paying to be on the ship and she was getting paid to be on the ship. Big difference.

Since that time I have booked specific cabins. Location is important to me more so than an upgrade.

The is no such thing as a "bad" cabin on a cruise ship. Just different levels of tolerance and a pre disposition to complain and nit pick by various passengers. If your cabin is on the ship it's good.

Some people like interiors I can't stand them but it doesn't make interiors "bad" cabins.

It's like the crazies that try to convince people that certain ships in the same class "rock" more than others. They don't you just happened to be sailing during roughter seas.

Our next cruise we were going to do a guarantee but this past one we were midship and I got seasick one night and it wasn't extremely rough, so we decided no way--wasn't worth the chance and we got a good deal on an 8B midship Empress deck so now we know exactly where we will be. Some people are very fortunate and get great upgrades, etc.--guess I am not that much of a gambler!!!:)

We almost always book a guarantee and we've never had a "bad" cabin. But we prefer the all-the-way forward or aft staterooms. We like the peace and quiet, as well as the forced exercise. So what's "bad" to some people is desirable to others. (Neither of us have issues with motion sickness - former Navy & Coast Guard).

All cabins on deck 6 upper deck on conquest and destiny class are BAD. They are over discos, casinos, etc. Not only does it sound like those things are in your room, you FEEL them too.

Absolutely not true I always stay in cabin 6211 on Conguest class ships and its an awesome cabin. Never heard a peep from anything. Why pass off blanket falsehoods like that it does no one any good

Saying that they are ALL bad is a bit of an exaggeration. We sail in AFT cabins, and those FULLY along the back of the ship are GREAT!!! I can't speak for ALL the others, but there are definitely some which you DO NOT want - due to NOISE issues from deck 5.

Deck 6 is our FAVORITE - but only SPECIFIC cabins!:D

Wow, can you exagerate further! ALL CABINS? No, not even close, there are lots of public areas on Deck 5 that are very quiet on Conquest class ships.

I totally disagree with that!!! We had an upper deck on the Liberty that was over one of the stores - it was the quietest cabin I had ever been in, we were relatively close to the Elevators as well, it was a GTY. 6274. Even those over the show lounge said it was quiet after midnight on...

I guess I was asking if people got "stuck" in cabins above the theaters and by the anchor - cabins that even Carnival considers less than desirable. Our PVP said that some cabins are consdiered "night owl" cabins and you have to request those cabins (they are cheaper) or they have to inform you that you are getting them. I didn't know if the guar sometimes falls in the "well you were the last to get a room assignment and we only have the room above the casino, below the vegas show, near the elevator and sewer department..." LOL (I know there is no real cabin like this). As for an inside versus outside, I would love to have a window (we tried for the nice L shaped one that is on the Valor, but no avail) but budget is budget. It would cost us an additional $400 to move from a guar 4a up to something and we could use that money towards excursions or whatever.

Come on now... forget the budget, go ahead and book what you WANT... (just follow your own motto below...;) ) :D

Sometimes you just have to jump and build your wings on the way down - just go for it!

Perhaps the CASINO will cover your extra expenses!!!

How bad can it be-- you are on a cruise instead of home fighting the daily drudgery of living..

Fisr time cruise== you have nothing to compare it to.

Have a cabin on top of a show lounge-- the shows are done way before midnight.

I do know how you feel.

I still have yet to go on a cruise, we can hardly wait. This cruise critics board has cost me a lot of money, but I hope it is well spent.

I almost booked a guaranteed inside cabin, then I read some here on these boards and was ready to book a ocean view cabin guarantee, then I read some more and almost booked a balcony cabin guarantee, read some more and almost booked a category 8 ( not obstructed ) balcony cabin guarantee.

Read some more here and finally booked a specific cabin with an extended balcony.

Cost me more, but what the heck, I wanted this trip to be special.

If it doesnt turn out to be great I am going to blame Sable Rose, Timmys Mom and Mr Pete. ;)

If you're worried about getting a "bad" cabin, then don't book a guarantee. Book a specific cabin instead. When booking a guarantee, always assume you're going to get the "worst" cabin possible - there's always the chance you will get that cabin, and anything better will be a nice surprise.

We booked 1A and 4A guarantees for our Conquest cruise. We were upgraded to 6As that were adjoining cabins. Great....so we thought. I think we were right over the stabilizers or something. Very noisy all hours of the day and night. We still had a great time on our cruise and as someone else has already stated, I'd rather be on a cruise than here at work! Would I book a guarantee again? Yep! In fact I'm working on our next cruise for next summer and we will most likely book guarantees again. They're cheaper and we can get 2 cabins that way.

Wow, this is the second time in less than 24 hours we agree....:D

I have never been on Deck 6 before, but will be on my October cruise on Conquest. I was in 6371 and noticed that it was over the Casino and where the one man band plays and not far from the disco. I asked to be moved and was told that the cabins over the shop area were quiet.

To me, the only bad cabin on a ship is the one I am leaving on the last day.:p

Five Carnival cruises, five different ships, four "Guaranteed" cabins and I've yet to be disappointed. I've been forward, aft, midshship and over the piano bar. Who cares?! I've gotten a big upgrade, balcony to suite (ahh...heaven)and same cabin on higher decks. I cruise to get away from the everyday drudgery and enjoy myself. I don't let little annoyances ruin my trip, that would be counterproductive.

It's all in how you perceive things. The cabin is a small part of my cruise experience. As long as it's clean, comfortable and has an unobstructed balcony it's fine with me. I will continue to book "Guarantees." I don't have a favorite area of the ship so the "Guarantee" cabins work out well for me, my family and friends.

By reading the boards you would think that booking a gurantee you WILL get upgraded because it seems to happen a lot. But remember that cruise critics represent less then 1% of the cruising public. Not everyone gets upgraded and there is no ryme or reason to who gets one and who doesnt.

Do not book an inside without being prepared to stay in one.

(I have booked my first 4 cruises as guarantees and not one of them did I get upgraded--not even to a higher deck)

today-- I rather have a cheaper price and pick out my particualr cabin.

We had a ocean view guarantee on the first and was upgraded two floors and the room was awesome. We booked a 8a guarantee for our cruise on May 7th and was upgraded to a 9a on the Veranda deck.

I would agree with some comments your on a cruise how bad can it be.

That's they way I feel, too. I would rather have an inside midship cabin that I specifically chose for location instead of being "upgraded" a few decks up to one located in a less-than-desirable area. Sure, you could get an outside stateroom...right over a noisy nightclub or like my other one which was waaaay too foreward for my liking. :) Or like your aft cabin with that rattling and smell.

On the other hand, some folks aren't concerned about cabin location and if they can get a bargain rate or "upgrade", they'll jump on it. Like someone just posted, SOMEBODY has to stay in those "bad" cabins. :D

Some folks are more sensitive to movement and sounds. As you said, different levels of tolerance. I happen to know what mine is. :) I think when the poster said "bad" cabins, she meant the ones many people consider in "less-than-desirable" locations, ie; under or over a noisy nightclub. Or so far foreward or aft, that there is a chance more movement will be felt there, especially in rough seas. Believe me, when the ship is pitching a lot, you feel like you're on the end of a teeter-totter in those cabins. It's like when you go on a roller-coaster at the amusement park. Sometimes you purposefully pick the end cars because you WANT more movement. And, many folks enjoy that on a ship, too. Makes them feel they're really out at sea. ;)

Stabilizers might work differently on various ships, too. And, yes, a lot depends on the condition of the seas.

Myself, I just feel more comfortable knowing where I'll be sleeping when I book my cabin. I also prefer a midship cabin situated somewhere in between two sets of elevators/stairs. That way I feel more centrally located.

But, hey, if someone offered to pay for a cruise for me and my cabin happened to be in one of those "less-than-desirable" locations...I would probably learn real quickly how to adapt! :p But, when it's MY hard-earned money, I want to choose my own cabin.
