Anyone get a "bad"cabin after booking a guar?

I wish when it came to the budget I could just throw caution to the wind, but this trip was a pure spur of the moment buy - someone actually agreed to watch our 5 (yes 5) kids if we wanted to go away for a week and the rate for 7 nts was $399. To spend another $400 would eat at the money we could use for the excursions, I plan on booking the America Cups Sailing and that runs almost $100pp....... so better be safe than sorry and use the money for treats. I guess if Carnival puts on a good sale, I might be able to fork over $ for a balcony, but as it stands right now - just too far out of the budget.

A lot of us have to do things on a relative budget. I'm throwing more and more to the wind on this cruise in April, but we still have to watch it and get a deal when we can. Yeah, there might be a little something from my friend Jack, Daniels that is, in my bag. I did study out here in the ports of call to book our excursions ourselves. Yes, we did book an 8A guar and ended up on Verandah deck midship with an extended balcony.

 

The way I figured on the room was if it was really all that bad, I'd stay on the Lido deck longer and have a few more drinks. Oh, wait a minute.. I was going to do that anyhow.. OK, well, the room can't be too bad if you're on the boat, has sheets on the bed that you don't have to make, is within a short walk of free food, and if you come back and pass out drunk on the bed, you won't notice.

 

No, I'm not a super lush but hey - the point is, anyone can make a good thing out of a bad situation somehow.... But only if you WANT to.

Saying that they are ALL bad is a bit of an exaggeration. We sail in AFT cabins, and those FULLY along the back of the ship are GREAT!!! I can't speak for ALL the others, but there are definitely some which you DO NOT want - due to NOISE issues from deck 5.

 

Deck 6 is our FAVORITE - but only SPECIFIC cabins!:D

Be real. MOST cabins are pretty noisy. Sure, there are a few here and there, but booking a GUAR, carnival doesn't care.

Absolutely not true I always stay in cabin 6211 on Conguest class ships and its an awesome cabin. Never heard a peep from anything. Why pass off blanket falsehoods like that it does no one any good

 

We were on the Liberty last year JUST ABOVE the CASINO, and YES we did hear it. We asked and received ear plugs, and they did turn down the ringers after 10:00 pm, but for me I could still hear it at times.

MOST cabins are GREAT. If, as you imply, MOST were noisy - then it would stand to reason that MOST of the reviews on here would back that up... they do not.

 

Now, as I have stated before, there are SOME areas to TOTALLY avoid (cabin wise), but that requires some common sense and experience. How many times have you sailed CRAZIDUDE ??

Okay gang, my head is spinning. I've narrowed down my cruise choices to one of 3 4-night cruises, Royal Caribbean Sovereign of the Seas, Carnival Fantasy or Carnival Inspiration. I'll need one room for 3 or 4 of us. Now how do I decide what room to request? what deck to request? what is a guarantee? We are first time cruisers looking for a fun, inexpensive trip. Thanks.

I base my cruise on price, then itinerary.

picking a cabin is personal choice. Inside cabins have no windows and are dark 24 hours a day- nice for naps.. but for a 3 day cruise I wouldnt be taking no naps.

Oceanview cabins have little windows that let in natural sunlight.

balconies are the most expensive---(on the ships you listed these will be suites as they dont have a regular balcony category)

again on a three day cruise I wouldnt need a balcony.

 

3 or more people to the cabin some one will be sleeping in an upper bed-- bunk bed type of bed that pulls out of the wall at night

My husband and I have 40 cruises between the 2 of us. We generally book a guarantee (depending on price) and have been happy with our cabins except once. We also generally get nice upgrades.

 

We booked an inside guarantee for Liberty Europe and were upgraded to an inside on deck 7. I love the location.

 

Didn't turn out so great on Legend 3 years ago. We booked a 1A and did get a nice upgrade to deck 6 BUT right over the showroom. Holly molly if you decide to go to bed early one night forget it.

 

But that's the chance you take with booking a guarantee.
