jhenry1 Posted August 2 #1 Share Posted August 2 We have never booked our own hotel in London as we have always used the Regent hotel. I am looking for suggestions for a good hotel in London for a few nights to stay prior to a cruise.
GOARMY Posted August 2 #2 Share Posted August 2 (edited) jhenry1: Three quick referrals-- Hotel Rosewood. Regent placed us there June 20th prior to beginning B/t/B Splendor cruises. Excellent experience. Five blocks from British Museum. Had opportunity to visit and have lunch at the Museum on the 20th. Several restaurants to choose from. Hyatt Regency--The Churchill. Close to American Embassy. First visit several years ago prior to a Silversea cruise when it was known as Hotel Winston Churchill. Stayed there pre-Pandemic when on extended land visit to the area. They remembered us! Royal Lancaster. Adjacent to Hyde Park. Marvelous Afternoon Tea. GOARMY! Edited August 2 by GOARMY Addition.
SkystheLimit Posted August 2 #3 Share Posted August 2 The Beaumont and The Chesterfield are our go to properties. Both are centrally located. Beaumont is very sleek while Chesterfield is quintessential vintage.
Rare Gilly Posted August 3 #4 Share Posted August 3 We frequently choose the excellent Sofitel in St James when we stay over, for its outstanding location within walking distance of most places we wish to visit (theatre, parks, shopping, restaurants). FYI - The American Emabsy - previously in Grosvenor Square - has now moved across the other side of the river at Nine Elms, Vauxhall. (Then) President Trump made a big fuss about the relocation to a far from central location.!

cruisevirgin24 Posted August 4 #9 Share Posted August 4 (edited) The Royal Horseguards Hotel is in a beautiful historic building, walking distance to London Eye, Big Ben, Horseguards Parade, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Houses of Parliament, St James' Park, Buckingham Palace and many theatres. The hotel has an amazing history including being commandeered by Churchill in WW2, and the UK Secret services were founded on the 8th floor of the hotel. The restaurant was The Gladstone Library which when opened in 1888 was the most extensive (20,000 volume) Club library in London. It has River Thames view rooms.
