Cruisemeister2002 Posted August 8 #1 Share Posted August 8 Hi all. I am rather partial to Goslings Rum. Just wondering, is it cheaper to buy on a cruise ship duty free or ashore in the US. We stop off in New York, Boston and Portland Maine. Over in the UK 70 cl is around £25 to £30 so around $38 top price, Black Seal 151 is about £41 or $51 exchange rates vary a bit so excuse me if they don't quite tally up. arizonaperson Posted August 8 #2 Share Posted August 8 (edited) @Cruisemeister2002 I would think the cost involved would also be how far do you need to go in port to obtain? If the ship carries it in their shop?? I don’t know the price. Here is a store in Portland, Maine & Boston. Sounds similar price to what you can get at home. There are likely exceptions, but I've generally found the total price of bottles of alcohol on the ship to be less expensive than on land in the US. Yes, taxes are a big part of it. If the price spread is compelling enough -- and I drive to the port (NYC) -- then I often buy a few bottles of various spirits to take home.
