can you share some tips for our vacation next week on same cruise.

Also I heard the dinning rooms are crazy busy and weather is chilly, is this true this week

WEATHER . COM is your friend. See what the forecast weather is next week. It has been accurate so far for us.

Your cruise, like ours, has been sold out for a while. You can expect 4600 passengers next week. If you want to minimize the crowds, eat early or late, not at 6:30 or 7:00.

Similarly, don’t rush to the gangway at ports unless you absolutely need to. The crowds die down in 30 minutes.

We are docked on the port side (face in) at the Ore Dock in Ketchikan this morning. NCL switched to avoid the hassle of the landslide zone on the Railway Dock across the harbor.

Sorry. We’re in Skagway. Not Ketchikan. Too early this morning.

Join The Bird, *live*, from the beautiful Norwegian Encore as she sails to one of the absolute best cruise destination, Alaska and the majestic Glacier Bay. Our voyage this week is a round-trip Seattle and we will be visiting Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Ketchikan, Victoria. The Encore continues to sail in Alaska until mid-October when she repositions to Germany for a long-awaited dry dock with some major changes to the ship. The Encore will return to Miami mid-December to start her winter season in the Eastern Caribbean.

The Norwegian Encore is a Breakaway Plus class ship that was delivered to NCL in October 2019 and she made her way to Miami where she was christened by her godmother, Kelly Clarkson. The Encore has an occupancy of 3998 guests and has 80 Haven staterooms, 306 Club Balcony staterooms, 1090 balcony staterooms, 111 Oceanview staterooms, 371 Inside staterooms, and 82 Studio staterooms. These counts will change as additional rooms are added during her upcoming dry dock.

The Birds were on the Encore for her inaugural voyage in 2019 and NCL’s restart cruise after the painfully long pandemic shutdown, the Great Cruise Comeback, in August 2021. This will be The Bird’s seventh voyage the stunning Norwegian Encore.

We have a group that has planned this cruise for same time next year, but just recently found out that if you have a DUI you can not enter Victoria, BC without getting a criminal rehabilitation approval. Is this correct or are these people allowed to just remain on the ship at this port without going onto Canadian land, or should the group just look for another cruise. Thanks for any insight into this. Everything you hae posted mskes this cruise look AMAZING!!!!!

Could you please explain a little more about the scheduled "Honor and Remember Walk for a Cause"?  Is this a one time thing or a weekly event?  I take it that it is a fundraiser for something.

I hope you are having a great cruise.

What happens when you miss the ship in Seattle? You’re on your own to join the ship on Day 3 in Juneau.

These are indeed passengers (not crew). They had documentation issues in Seattle which they could not resolve before the ship departed. Three different groups this week with doc problems.

A couple of weeks ago, a group of over 125 joined the ship in Juneau after the CloudStrike issue crippled some airlines.

Passengers joining late will be the first to disembark when we get back to Seattle. No one else can leave the ship until they have to gone through full immigration processing.

I have only heard that any US citizen with a felony conviction will not be allowed into Canada without permission. I do not know if they get flagged and denied boarding.

We crossed into Canada today and every passport was scanned and checked by the Canadian immigrations folks.

I would suggest that you contact Katty Byrd in Miami and ask her.  Go to NCL's website, go all the way to the bottom-- About Us--Leadership.  She can give you the most accurate information.

On the Railway Dock, ships in the first berth are still not allowed to disembark passengers directly onto the dock in front of the landslide zone. (This was the same thing last year).

So, the poor Royal Princess has to tender her passengers one small boat at a time the 100 yards outside the landslide zone. And ships in other berths have to shuttle their passengers through the landslide zone.

The Birds are glad that NCL has moved to the Ore dock

No one will be denied boarding the ship in Seattle because the cruise line doesn't have access to the NCIC database, which is where such criminal records are stored. Nor will Canadian officials receive the passenger manifest until sometime after the ship departs Seattle so no one can be denied boarding because Canada doesn't want to admit them, as Canada won't know which passengers may potentially be denied disembarkation in Victoria.

Canada does have full access to NCIC, and before the ship makes port in Victoria, Canada Border Services Agency officials will review the manifest and determine if anyone will potentially be denied disembarkation privileges because of their criminal record. They may decide that a person is approved to disembark and no further action is necessary, or they may decide to interview any particular passenger with a criminal record before making the final decision on disembarkation privileges.

At worst what will happen to anyone is they will be denied disembarkation privileges in Victoria due to their criminal record.

Was it scanned on the ship or upon leaving the ship?

We crossed the Canadian border on the White Pass railway. Canadian Customs came on the train and methodically scanned each person (even checking bathrooms for stowaways).
