Port of Ravenna

Recommended Posts

I have heard that NCL offers a round trip shuttle bus from the port of Ravenna into the city of Ravenna for $20. No one from NCL can confirm this. Does anyone have any information regarding this shuttle? Specifically the schedule of this shuttle?

We are sailing in October of 2024.

while i cannot stand 100% behind this information, NCL does usually offer a shuttle service from the airport directly to the ship. the price varies, and it's usually offered the day of embarkation. if you are arriving in the embarkation city anytime prior than the actual departure date, and you want to use this service,  you have to go back to the airport.

there is no designated schedule per se, it leaves whenever ncl has an available bus, and it's near full to capacity.

you can make the arrangements when  you are 1st able to check in for the cruise (21 days prior)

Port of Ravenna is our 2nd stop. It docks in an industrial port 25 minutes from the town of Ravenna. This has made it very difficult to get into the city as it has a limited amount of taxi’s and the company that does offer shuttles to and from Ravenna does not have any openings for the date we arrive. It is a 12 hour stop. Poor planning on NCL’s part. They should have made it a sea day.

JUst off the Pearl last week, Yes, in Ravenna, NCL offers a round trip shuttle service for $20 per person round trip.  We did not use it as we took NCL excursion to Ferrari Museum.  The port is industrial area north of Downtown

Thank you so much for your response! Every NCL employee said there was not a shuttle. How was the Ferrari Museum excursion?

Any other tips of wisdom for that cruise you can share?

There's also a public bus with a stop about a 5 minute walk from the ship that heads into Ravenna (snip below showing where the bus stop is).  It's Bus #90 and it leaves just after the half (xx:35) every hour and takes about 25 minutes to get to the city center (same exact situation on the return) - I would get off at the stop just before the train station, but getting off at the train station stop only adds 2-3 min walking to the center )and it's a stop very hard to miss).  Public busses in this area are EUR 1.50 and the on board readers will take any tap to pay physical Visa or Mastercard.  They will also work with Apple Pay/Google Pay/Samsung Pay with a linked Mastercard (for some reason the "virtual" Visa used in these apps is not recognized).

As a side note, Ravenna as a port stop is really worth it.  The city is lovely with a quaint historic center offering lots of shops and restaurants (and not yet totally overrun with tourists).  There are also 8 UNESCO heritage sights in the city, including the not to be missed mosaics at Basilica of San Vitale.  The locals are all very nice and happy to help should you get lost or need directions somewhere.

Day 9 - Ravenna.pdf

The ferrari Museum through NCL I would rate as a B-.  Nothing excellent but easy to do.  The bus ride is about 1hr 43minutes.  Comfortable coach.  Once you arrive you are actually set up with a tour guide for the museum which I did not expect as it wasn't in the NCL description.  The museum is actually kind of small given the history.  It is a couple of miles from the factory but on our way back to the ship the bus driver drove past the large factory complex and the test track.

The souvenir shop is very expensive.  You will have time after the tour to shop, go across the street to a gift shop there, much more reasonable prices for the same shirts made in china (ferrari museum t-shirt 100 euros, gift shop across street 50 euros).

The port itself is in a very industrial area.  None of our travelling party (2 other couples) went into town so can't speak to that but it sounds like someone else gave some good feedback.  We were staying in Venice 2 days post cruise so didn't go up there from this port either but heard from others on the cruise that it makes for a very long day if you do.
