Day at Sea between Trieste & Koper

We are looking at a 10 day cruise on NCL Pearl next September out of Trieste.  Our first full day is a day at sea.  Then our first port is Koper, literally a 25-30 minute drive away.  Anyone know why they would do this?  Do they go out and circle around for a day?

It is rather unusual.  It was probably done to accommodate when ports were available to stop in balanced with fuel efficiency.  And they will like just very slowly sail around in imperfect loops.  I’ve done that before.

Or the powers-that-be just wanted the day after embarking to be a sea day.

Maybe because Venice used to be on Day 2 and they are no longer calling there.
