When you are onboard, you are forced to watch the 15 minute version before you can turn on your TV to the football game... which may be the only place to see the game.

Actually I'm a secret agent of NCL and this is how the company gets everyone to watch/talk/discuss the muster station drill thoroughly.

There hasn’t been an in person muster since the pandemic. It is that way on many cruise lines. You still have to check in at your muster station (scan your room key) but it is mostly a drive-by. 

Not true. it has been posted that ships are required to have them at a certain interval, IIRC 6 months. So, most cruisers have not experienced them since the new form of muster was implemented, but some have.

I have had one of each since the pandemic on NCL... On the Bliss it was a chaotic walk by - which was strange to me because on the Gem they actually talked to us and made sure we knew exactly what to do. Only think I did NOT have to do was put on a life vest.. but they gave detailed instructions.

Correct.  You have your card scanned at your muster station, answer “Yes” when asked if you saw the video, then go on your way.  If you don’t check in, your name or stateroom number will be called on the PA.  If you don’t respond, someone will come knocking on your door.  Eventually you either will get checked in or escorted off the ship.

I was trying to find a quiet place to read on the first day of the cruise which happened to be a sea day aboard the Gem. I picked the Orchid Garden after about 15 min I looked up and it was crowded all of the sudden .  I left and head over to a window seat opposite the restaurant. I then learned what happens if you didn’t check in at your lifeboat station the previous day.  It started with an announcement that everyone was here cause they hadn’t checked in and they were going to watch the video and be told where their life boat stations where.  I then left and headed outside cause I had already heard enough to know I didn’t want to watch that video again.
