Single cruisers have to pay double fare

I kinda know you have to pay for double berth in room for singles, do I also have to pay the tax, port charges,tips etc for empty berth

Some cruise lines have dedicated rooms for singles. Some cruise lines have a percentage up charge for a single room. For example, for a double ocean view on a certain cruise line the fare is $4800 per person for a double, and $5800 for a single occupying an identical room. And no, you should never be charged the tax and port charges for anyone but yourself. Do be diligent about knowing the terms and conditions for the cruise line you wish to book.

Although bookings are based on double occupancy rates, you don't always pay double.  You will pay a single supplement which will be up to 100% of the second person's (or double occupancy) rate.  But there are cruise lines that will scale that amount, or sometimes there are solo promotions that have a reduced rate.  But typically it can be up to the full double occupancy rate.  And as mentioned, you will only pay one person's port fees and taxes.

 

But as @Shorex mentioned there are cruse lines that offer solo based staterooms on some of their ships (ex: RCI, Celebrity, NCL) and although the staterooms are typically smaller, they are intended for only one passenger and the fares, while usually at a rate that is more than the typical solo fare with double occupancy, are significantly less than the typical double occupancy fare.
