They WILL confiscate your smuggled booze......

I was replying to someone about an open container being brought onto the ship.

Why would you have a problem with that?

I was just jesting at your typo (Spite instead of Sprite). I thought it was funny.

Just be careful not to p*ss her off too bad, or she might come after you with a bottle of Spite in one hand and an open can of whoop *ss in the other. ;) :D :D

We have yet to receive any problems.. yet. However, I would be less likley to ring up a tab in the casino, bar, or art auction if all my goodies were taken at the start of our cruise.

The odds that they will confiscate your booze from a carry on is very high.

True....but...I've always taken a small bottle in my carryon so I can make a couple drinks before our luggage arrives with the other bottle.

And in 19 cruises, this is the first time they have confiscated anything out of my carryon. Up to this point, I guess I've beaten the odds.

My husband called this small bottle my sacrificial bottle...LOL

If they went thru luggage and didn't take anything including another bottle of booze, chances are no one opened the luggage.

Oh believe me...they opened my bag. Now, I'm sure it was just coincidence but there was evidence of my bag being opened. I KNOW I locked the bag because I am very anal about locking my bags and in this case the lock had been opened (I have the TSA approved locks that can be opened by TSA and others). No harm done and nothing was taken, but I have no doubt they opened my bag.

I hope when she was pouring it out that you demonstrated proper etiquette. Standing at attention with your hand over your liver, and playing taps through a kazoo. Very sad. Tragic even. :(

It WAS tragic! LOL But I will always think of it as my sacrificial rum.

I guess I'm not getting it- do they go into your toiletry bag to check all containers? And they actually inspect water bottles for broken seals?

This is the first time this happened to me in 19 cruises. But once he discovered the rum in the water bottle, he then checked everything in my bag including my shampoo and conditioner just to be thorough.

I failed to mention that I had an actual bottle of water in my purse (opened, half drank) in my purse and that went thru the scanner just fine. So I know it was the champagne bottles that caused a red flag to cause them to search the rest of my carryon.

And let me set the record straight. I am in no way upset with Carnival for taking it from me and its the chance I took. Thems the rules! But I am a bit upset that they wouldn't give it back to me at the end of the cruise. And I didn't like the security guys attitude. At least the female security guard was pleasant....as she was pouring the rum down the drain....LOL

When bording the Destiny last year, there was a person at a table handing out samples of flavored rum, we were at the front of the line right in front of the table so we got more than out share of samples, I happened to have a plastic cup in my carry on that i got from a resturant, the sample guy filled up my cup with coconut rum, no one said a word as i walked on board holding my rum filled cup.

I guess it really does matter what kind of mood security is in that day.

I think that right there might answer it all. Either this guy is a real pr*ck or he was just have a bad day. Either way, he caught on to what you were doing and decided to be extra "thorough".

As they should. Denied boarding would be a good start.

tef, why would you be in favor of denied boarding for smuggling booze? You don't think that is a little harsh? I'm not trying to be pissy; I'm just curious.

The difference is there is no rule about bringing cigarettes and smoking on the ship (in designated areas, at least). I don't partake in either, so no problem for me. (Oh, I'll have a few yummy mixed drinks on board, maybe.) BUT, my only REAL vice is FOOD! And, they already have plenty of that on the ship. :D

I'll bet they start that right after they deny boarding to all smokers!

Just don't let our impressionable kids and teens know that...or worse yet, see this thread. :D Next thing you know, they might be inclined to "break the rule" about about minors NOT drinking alcohol. :(

Some rules were made to be broken.

This is one of them.

Our "creatively packed" liquor in our checked baggage made it to our cabin and back home again! (Only drank a couple drinks from each of the two bottles. The other bottle we didn't even open. Next time DH and I will just have to decide on 1 bottle to share.) And we also had plenty of a bar bill and lots of Carnival glasses to bring home! (I tried that Miami Vice that I heard so much about - I guess I was a little disappointed. :( Guess that I am not much of a frozen drink kind of girl!) Plus the onboard gift shop got plenty of our business - all was delivered in their nice neat boxes on the last night.)

I am back from Carnival Paradise. I've done the 3 night LA to Ensenada cruise 4 times this past year, but always on the Monarch of the Seas. Its been a few years since I've sailed Carnival, so I thought I'd give the Paradise a try this time out. While I'm very fond of RCCL and the Monarch, I have to say that I rather liked Carnival Paradise too.

This cruise was out of California? Maybe it's not a problem in Florida. Wonder how many cruises go out of California in comparison to Florida? Derf, anyone?

I know... my point was they are not likely to "get tough" on booze smugglers any more than they are likely to ban smoking. Neither one is going to happen.:D

What is wrong with that?!? :) I was under the age of 21 on one of my first cruise. Also, certain countries such as Mexico have a drinking age of 18 (but do not enforce it). My brother was a minor on serveral cruises yet we still had a good time. Unfortunatly, there are some out there that can ruin it.

I'm thinking more of the 13--17 age group. I can just see some older kid or young adult managing to get booze and letting my daughters and her friends try it out. I'm not saying they would...but let's face it, these young teens are at an age where they are just dying to try "grown-up" things.  :(

They are going to try that whether they are on a cruise or at a party or at friends' houses on land. Reading about it on these boards isn't going to make a difference.

My whole point in these thread is to let people know that it will get confiscated if found. It took 19 cruises before I got "caught".
