JessH Posted April 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I am a first time cruiser... When going to the dining room or shows for example, do you carry your cruise card and camera or do you bring a purse? (at the pool I will have a beach bag, but what about all the other times on board!?)
Layla Posted April 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I have a couple of small evening purses in which I carry a lipstick, cruisecard, and Casino $$ or chips when we go to dinner. If I bring my camera, I just carry it.
ShoeChick Posted April 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2006 For dinner I have a small evening bag, for just walking around the ship, I have a really light little one that fits across the body, that just holds a couple of credit cards and a lipstick. It's very handy..It's about the size of a pack of cards, but only about 1/2 inch thick.

Nancyquilts Posted April 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2006 Can't speak for everyone else, but I never bring a purse (well, maybe on formal nights). My key card fits in a pocket and generally that's all I need. Nancy
LARGIN Posted April 9, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2006 Wife has a small purse for formal nights or uses my pockets when we are at the shows :D
stoneharborlady Posted April 9, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I used a tiny evening bag for dinner. During the day my cruise card was on a lanyard around my neck. Never used a purse onboard at all. Never took my camera to the dining room or the theater. The photographer will come to your table in the dining room, and take photos if you want them. Otherwise, you could carry your camera there if you wish. Karen quote=JessH]I am a first time cruiser... regnig Posted April 9, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I have a couple of very small hand bags (clutch size) that I use only for taking to the dining room on our cruises. Since I've become sooooo very old (lots better too! :D ) I have to take my glasses or someone has to read the menu to me  , so in they go along with my cruise card and tissue. The one time I didn't carry a small bag into the dining room I left my glasses on the table when we left. Other than that when onboard I just wear my card around my neck on a lanyard. You can get a hole punched in your card and either bring your own lanyard or pick one up ($2 I think) in the gift shop onboard. Wearing it that way makes it virtually impossible to lose. custompcsys Posted April 9, 2006 #10 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I try not to bring a purse to dinner. It tends to clash with the tux :D
Sailaway Girl Posted April 9, 2006 #11 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I bring along 2 (one black, one tan) very small crocheted bags that hold my glasses (no case) a tissue a lipstick and my cruise card. It can sit on my lap with a napkin over it when I eat and won't interfere with my meal and the colors match everything. I also have a small Coach wristlet I take which carries the above items and I can drop it into a beach bag or handbag for shore visits.
envy4u Posted April 9, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I always carry a small evening bag . It takes next to no space in the luggage and it gives me the oppurtunity to carry around a few essentials .
Cruiseteach Posted April 9, 2006 #13 Share Posted April 9, 2006 You will never really need a purse, except perhaps, on formal nights if you want to carry a lipstick and comb for primping before your formal pictures. Otherwise, I'd advise one of those neck wallets, which will hold your cruise card, receipts, money for the casino, etc. It's all you need. I bought one from LLBean, and then my AAA travel agent gave me one. If whatever you are wearing has pockets, you don't even need that. Be warned, though. For about two weeks after you return, you will be very apt to wander off and leave your purse behind. You get so used to not toting it around. cactusrose Posted April 9, 2006 #14 Share Posted April 9, 2006 Like most of the others, the only purse I bring is a small evening bag and most of the time I don't even use it. Since I've retired, I've even stopped carrying one at home most of the time. I figure that's what pockets are for. Very liberating not to have a purse to watch. UKLady Posted April 9, 2006 #15 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I have yet to buy an evening dress or outfit that has pockets  I used an evening bag but thats because I had my cruise card, camera, small hair brush, lipstick, and sanitizer and lots of $$$ for the casino :D If you normally use one at home then do, if you normally carry everything then do that, no-one else will care which method you use its just whatever is easier for you. IMO having anything dangling around your neck of an evening other than diamonds is just wrong :p
Juliadlf Posted April 9, 2006 #16 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I usually take a very small evening bag that holds my card, eye glasses (yes for reading the menu) and lipstick. For cash in the casino, hubby holds that in his wallet;) . We typically don't take a camera to the dining room or the shows. Julia
Splinter Posted April 9, 2006 #17 Share Posted April 9, 2006 I wear dressy slacks outfits with either palazzo pants or velvet pants and a dressy top for formal nights. The slacks have pockets. Otherwise, I get my key card punched with a hole at the pursers desk (you need this if you use a lanyard during the day) and just pin my key card to the inside waist band of a skirt or slacks. Handy, but out of the way. I either carry my camera in my hand, or don't take it in the evenings. I have a dressy bag and used to take it with me on cruises, but found I didn't use it most of the time, so it stays at home now. During the day I use a fanny pack for my camera and card, and may carry a book with me. The only time I use a purse is for embarkation and de-embarkation. I use the fanny pack for shore trips exclusively.
Cruisin' Chick Posted April 10, 2006 #18 Share Posted April 10, 2006 I have a little beaded black purse that I took for the dressier nights -- can fit my camera, loose altoids, my card. Before my last cruise, I found a little backpack purse that I carried everywhere else (and still using) for carrying the camera, eyeglass case (I'm terribly nearsighted so I wear prescription lens all the time), book to read, sunscreen, girl's inhaler, etc. I use the lanyard I bought at Walmart for the cruise card. Pam in CA Posted April 10, 2006 #19 Share Posted April 10, 2006 You won't really need a purse for the evening. I have a very small, black credit card-sized purse I use to hold my cruise card and any drink or purchase slips. You won't need a camera for the shows since picture-taking isn't allowed. You might bring one to the dining room.
Andee Posted April 10, 2006 #20 Share Posted April 10, 2006 I don't like the way it looks to have a lanyard dangling around my neck. I carry a small purse with my card, lipstick (need that every night--and day, not just on formal mights), Epi-pen, tissue, $ for the casino. My husband carries the camera. parkerlisa Posted April 10, 2006 #21 Share Posted April 10, 2006 Last cruise, I went to Target and found this great blue backpack....very small and perfect for travel. Enough to hold a very small billfold/wallet, sunglasses, brush, contact case, etc.........that way it is on my back and out of the way....hands free. For evenings, I too go with a small dressy purse for bare essentials!.......I have since use the back-pack often. I plan on taking on 6/3 CB cruise!
