Wellwishers....No More

Well, except for the fact that hotels allow it... and the cruise ship doesn't... just a little difference there :D Now, you can smuggle it... until they find a way to crack down on that as well... I always take a bottle with me when I travel, I like to have a drink in my room as well... but I won't complain when one of those companies doesn't allow it... their property, their rules. Thankfully most hotels allow it still...

Who's complaining:confused: Not me! As long as I can get away with it - no complaints here. Just agreeing with Gypsyrose that's all!

"To each his own", said the old man as he kissed the cow.

Yes, there're a lot of people out there that will pay whatever they charge.

I'm not one of them.

I've always wondered how high they could price a beer before no one would buy it.

So you don't drink on cruises? Or do you smuggle your weeks worth of drinks with you???

I don't worry about it... it's vacation, and when I vacation on land, or cruise... I pay for drinking, it's just not that big of a deal, and the prices on the cruise are certainly no more than I pay most places when I travel. I personally, don't drink much beer... it's not my drink of choice. But I've paid MUCH higher than $4.75. To each their own... The day I start worrying about how much I am spending on vacation, is the day I start looking at another vacation, or a part time job :D LOL... I don't like to think on vacation :D

Then I'll ask again... when they start enforcing it, what will you do? Will you quit cruising??? When you can no longer get away with it, what will your solution be?? Just curious..

Just back from the April 1 Liberty sailing. My group (22 cabins used Wellwishers for several cases beer (1 per cabin and soda ) and a few even ordered spirits.

All were received. Funniest thing is the beer was wrapped in white birthday paper with ribbon and all.

Keep in mind that what these companies are delivering are gifts - like from one spouse to another, or from friends or travel agents wishing you bon voyage - so that's why they look like gifts.

Once it becomes just an accepted way to just bring liquor aboard by ordering from one of these gift companies, that's when the cruise lines will step in and stop accepting it.

I drink their's at the welcome party and the past quest's party:D

I drink mine the rest of the time. We have a nightly cocktail party on the balcony before dinner, have the refrigerator filled with our mixes, etc., and have a collapsible cooler filled with ice and beer.;) Nice and convenient.

On our Elation cruise last month it was $9.56 (which included the 15% gratuity) every time we ordered two beers. Since you can't get around the automatic 15% that made each beer $4.78.

This price is pretty typical of any on shore hotel or resort.

Ask me that question when they do. Highly unlikely that they will enforce it though. Just my opinion

Any idea if Just Because of You delivers to Tampa port?

I was very willing to buy a bottle of booze from the Bon Voyage dept, but they don't carry Maker's Mark whiskey, and that is my husband's drink of choice. :(

Yes, BonVoyage Gifts and Anemities are delivered to most major ports of call. You will have to check with 1-800-882-9707 to see if they can handle your request....remember the "GIFT" will be sent to a cabin mate, friend or relative as stated by Cruise News Daily in a post above!

Our bar tab on a 7 day cruise usually averages $20. I think that beer and drink prices on the ship are ridiculous. I would imagine that Carnival doesn't like us very much(except that I'm afraid that I make up for their loss of alcohol revenue from us in the casino). Please keep drinking and paying their ever increasing prices so that our cruise fare will not increase. I will do my part for you in the casino.

Thanks... that's a bit extreme, as I don't care much for the derby :p However, if I were to go, I certainly wouldn't be so cheap as to sneak in my own mint juleps... I would either pay the price, or opt not to drink it. One of my vendors last week ordered a scotch, for $850, plus tip. That was his choice... he wanted to drink it, nobody put a gun to his head to order it or drink it. Could he have bought his own bottle and paid less? Would he have even thought about doing that? Hardly...

I bring a bottle (well, used to, until I realized I could pre-order from Carnival) to have a drink in my cabin... my bar bill is pretty steep, so I don't feel bad about the few drinks I have in my cabin. There are people out there that will go to great lengths to not buy a drink at all, or just drink the free ones... could be the same people that take pictures of their formal pictures so they don't have to actually buy them. It takes all kinds, and yes, to each their own :D

You guys are fun :D

This is our first cruise and just trying to figure out a budget and I really didn't expect to pay $5.18 for a beer  (That would be 4.50 + tip, not on happy hour.)

I agree with all the examples of beer pricing, yes, I will pay it at sporting events and such, but I'm not there for a week :D

A week on a cruise at 5 + a pop....

OH well, let's see, when will that credit card bill come due? Need a part time job to pay for BEEEEEER drinking HA!

If there are, I don't associate with them:cool: Never said we don't buy from the bars (by the way our tab on the LIberty in March was $850.00) We are just saying nothing wrong with trying to cut a few of your costs by bringing your own drinks. People clip coupons, look for sales etc. Nothing wrong with that. By the way, if there is anyone out there that has gone to great lengths not to buy booze and got it all for free. Let me know how your did this:confused: Thanks!

Hi Hoosier--Meijer's has Labatt's in the can--case around $16--then you can use the extra suitcase for crap you buy to get it back home. About 1/6th of the ship price.

In a word, no. Carnival has the absolute right to say what may and may not be delivered to their ships.

This would be analogous to you attempting to sue your local pub for prohibiting you from bringing in your own beverages.

Build a bridge, get over it.

Carnival has a right to make a profit wherever they can...

Try having beer delivered to your favorite ball stadium!

Like any smart company, making a profit should be the goal. Its part of what keeps them in business so us lemmings can keep on doing what we do. I have to agree with GoingCruisin that at some point, they will crack down on the "how did that get in my luggage" stuff. When, depends on profit.

Went to a hockey game in Detroit (live in Phoenix). Flight, hotel, tickets etc.... was about a 5 day cruise for 2. Beer - 8.50-10 for a 20oz cup / 5-7 bucks for plastic bottle depending on brand. Mixed drinks 7-9 bucks for 8 oz cup. Im a big hockey fan, maybe they should have let me bring my own EH?
