ncl credit card

i wish i could convince hubby to put some of the monthly bills on the credit card. he has a lot of them set up to automatically deduct from the checking account every month and he seems like he doesnt want to change that.

i've only been using my card for a few weeks. i'm wondering when a good point is to check and see if i'd be better off splitting the cards into two accounts. should i wait a few months? more/less than that?

Just watch your volume of activity keeping in mind that you have monthly and annual limits to the points available.

We have 3 cards and just about max them all out (They let me charge things at work on top of the majority of our household spending).

I keep an excel sheet set up to track the monthly points and when the annual cutoffs will fall in the year.

i was thinking that i wouldnt max out the monthly limit but that i would probably max out the annual one. thats how it goes right....if you use the monthly maximum you'd reach the annual maximum long before the year runs out, right?

i had to really convince my hubby to go for this so i dont want to rock the boat at all at the moment. so i thought i'd wait for a few months and then i can show him the activity and he'll be able to see the need for one. so do you guys use all the cards simultaneously or do you use one and then put it in a drawer at some point during the year?

4 monthly max out of point of 250 and you would get to the yearly maximum in only 4 months.

DW has one and I use another at the same time. We use the thrid one when the others are near their max in spending.

I'm so confused with my one of my three accounts:

One of my accounts according to my calculations have hit the 1000 annual points. And, in fact I've received two $500 vouchers just since January. However, I'm still receiving points on my statement on this account. What do I not understand? Some transactions accidently were put on there by DH and we received the points. I have a brand new account ready to go, final payment for our July cruise is due today. I'd really like to use the original account which is at 264 points. Then, if they keep acrueing, I'd have a chance at another $500 reward. Please help:confused:

Can't believe I'm quoting myself...

I think I have it figured out. Can someone please confirm? It seems that my first account opened, points are accumulating from Jan. to Jan. My other account seems to be accumulating from open date to open date. Anyone else have accounts that seem to be functioning with slightly different terms?

You would need to be sure of your starting and ending periods. Maybe your annual period already passed and that is why the points (beyond what you thought was the 1,000 point limit) were allowed on the original card.

Maybe you could call MBNA and ask what is your anniversary date with the older card if you don't have copies of your statements. You could also check online at MBNA.

I have all my statements but unless you know from what period to start adding the points, the statement is useless. After trying twice in the past two weeks, I called MBNA today and talked with someone who seemed very informed. He validated over and over that my two accounts are working different from one another but he does not know why. He is going to look into it and call me back. Thanks for you help. I'll keep you posted.

Why would they? It would be a violation of the certificate and cant be used by others.

The Travel Agent could if they would be willing to eat the value of the cert.

I have been dying to ask this question but I don't want to get "yelled" at.

How does the business of the credit card work? I use my MBNA cc and because I have messed up payments twice have had to pay finance charges of about $60. MBNA makes a little there. I know the business that accepts the cc pays a fee, say 2%, though I'm pretty sure big, big companies pay less? So if I have charged $50,000, MBNA has made $1,000 plus $60.

I have accumulated 1,500 in points. How would MBNA and NCL settle up?

I'm thrilled with the plan and am just curious about how it benefits NCL and MBNA.

NCL gets a portion of every the fee on everything that is charged. Not all the points that are accumulated are ever turned into certs. The $1000 in certs doesn't cost NCL $1000, and the people who used them buy other things when they are aboard and use the casino. Most small merchants pay more than 2%. There are other fees besides the interest charges and late fees. If you charge anything overseas, MBNA collects additional fee, which they may or may not share with NCL. I don't know why you think we would yell at you for asking an interesting questions. Finally affinity cards like this are big business for MBNA which is highly profitable.

Quote from the MBNA site:

"Compass Rewards Points for Stateroom Upgrades§

100 One category upgrade for first person in stateroom.

200 One category upgrade for first and second person in stateroom.

300 Two category upgrade for first person and one category upgrade for second person in stateroom.

500 Two category upgrade for first and second person in stateroom."

Now I'm sure that little squiggly thing after the word "Upgrades" makes some qualifications on the types of room. I can't figure it out though.

Using the NCL Pearl 4/13/2007 departure for example: A two category upgrade for 2 persons from a BC to a BA would be a huge waste of points. It only cost $100 per person to upgrade if you pay by yourself.

But if they let you do a double upgrade from a BA to a AE (jumping over the mini suite and right into a penthouse!). The cost difference is $580 per person or $1160 for both people. Too good to be true to get this upgrade for only 500 points..... isn't it?

two questions - how does the voucher program work? i.e. do you wait until you have, say, 1000 points, and you call and hey send you certificates? How long are the certificates good? Then you call your TA, and apply the certificates? If you rack up another 500 points before final payment, you could use these also?

Question 2: anyone use these with an online TA?

The certifcates are good for one year from the date of issue. I just redeemed 2000 point towards and Alaska cruise. My total out of pocket is $144.00. This is our second free cruise. Well, almost free. It cost us $8.00 for our last Carribean cruise. I'm sure you can make your final payment with an additional $500.00 certificate. They're almost like cash. Enjoy your trip PSCruiser

When you get the certificates it says "submit with final payment" does anyone submit theirs ahead of time? I dont sail for 6 months and so I will be HOPEFULLY getting another certificate before we sail so dont want to make the final payment yet but dont want the two certificates I have sitting around and getting lost either???

I called NCL and ofcourse its like anything else. One answer from one person and call back and get another answer from another. Any first habd experience??

I mailed my 2 certificates worth $1000 by certified mail. Within a week I received email confirmation saying they took the $1000 off the balance. I have not paid my final payment yet because it is not due. The price has gone down 4 times since I booked and have also called and they took the difference off my balance.

So go ahead and mail the certificates to NCL.

Enjoy!

Good news, took me 9 months to get to the 1000 Max for the year.

Getting 2nd card in a few days, i did not think i could do it that fast,

just wanted to pass on that it goes fast if you use it all the time.

Only thing that i messed up on is not getting the card sooner.

Hi everyone. I've been searching through the posts about the NCL credit card and I have a couple of questions that I don't think have been answered here.

The first one is about the foreign transaction fee. I understand that there is a 3% fee on purchases made in other currencies and/or outside of the United States. If the NCL card is used for the onboard account would the transaction fee not apply since the purchases were made on the ship and not on land even though the ship leaves the country?

My second question has to do with the casino. The fee details on the website say that there is a 3% fee for casino gaming chips. Would this fee be payable if I were to charge money onto my account in the casino?

I've read a lot of good things about this card and I'm kicking myself for not signing up for it sooner. I think I know the answers to my questions but I'm just hoping for some confirmation before I send off the application. Thanks in advance for your help!

Onboard charges are posted through Miami - no transaction fee.

If you get a cash advance directly on the card all fees would apply and no points. If you charge the chips to your onboard account that is tied to your NCL card no fees and you get points (4%) like any other NCL purchase transaction. It is perfect. I never bring cash for the casino and always put it on my room. It is like getting a 4% bonus.
