So after reading the boards about the military discount I thought I would call for our sailing to see if it would apply. Currently we are booked at $399 pp for a 4 a guar (IL resident pricing) and we could change to the following with the military discount (yes we are eligible)

Inside 379pp

429 OV

529 balcony-upper deck (none include 46.45 taxes)

I also have a coupon (from when we last sailed) for 10% one person. Does anyone think we should take the balcony for $130 more pp

Regular pricing is

579 inside

739 ov

829 balcony

I sailed once before with an oceanview from the very front of the ship - not much privacy b/c there was a small deck in front of us.........

BTW East Carib - Valor Sept 24

I would love to hear all your comments..........

I don't know if I'd go to the balcony (in fact I would never book a balcony for any price ) but I would sure go to the OV.

How long is the cruise? If you are talking about one week, that's just over $20 per person per day to upgrade to a balcony. The balcony adds so much to the cruise experience, but only you can decide if it's worth it.

I would not pay $50 more for an oceanview. With an inside or an oceanview, we just don't spend much time in our room. The balcony, however, makes a big difference.

My DH refuses to do an inside. We have done OV twice and on our last cruise we had a balcony. Surprise for us. It was nice but not necessary (for us). We decided we will only book a balcony if the price difference is $100 or less for the two of us. So in your case we'd stick with the OV.

I'm very glad we did the balcony, now I know I'd rather have a few more drinks.

Yes it is a 7 day cruise - 3 at sea "fun" days ......... Interesting some people say not worth the money........gotta love all the different opinions, but that is why I asked. We are just afraid to keep upping the cost of this trip.......... maybe that means we don't go on a shore excursion in Nassau and instead just take a cab to Atlantis

I can't cruise without a balcony anymore, so the answer is an obvious one to me.

Considering i paid $300/pp more to have an aft wrap, an extra $130/pp for a balcony is a great deal.

It all depends on if it's worth it to you, though. If you don't spend that much time in your cabin, save your money. If you'll use the balcony, then it's worth it at that price (IMO).

I knew it was a 7 day when I posted. Anything shorter than 5 days and I dont care much about the room but on a 7 day with 3 at sea is where the balcony is most used by us. My wife loves to be on the balcony at sea.

But like I said, it depends on you. What do you want to do? Do you take a book? The balcony is a great place to read and way more quiet than on Lido. It matters (a lot) to some and not at all to others.

Forgot, have you heard of the Balcony version of the mile high club?

My DH is very well - not open - not sure how to politely say that the mile high club - would be intriguing to some, but not others :p If I could convince him, heck why not  - but are the balconys really that private? The people next to you can't see over the wall - I am not sure if the wall is full height or just 3/4 or what........we have never had a balcony before and my DH has never cruised before.

Yes I love to read.....we have 5 kids and I don't have much down time at all (13, 11, 3, 3, and 2) ... I haven't watched tv or read a book in forever

Personally, I would rather skip the one-day shore excursion and have the balcony for a week instead. IMO, most shore excursions are overpriced anyway. There's nothing like listening to the ocean while you're in bed, or eating breakfast on your own private balcony.

The balconies are somewhat private; the walls are nearly full height, but if someone wants to see what's going on in your balcony, all they have to do is hang over the railing a little and look back into your space. Also, depending upon the location of your cabin, the bridge may be able to see into your cabin because portions of the bridge hang over the width of the ship.

Either way, have a great time!

Also, read this on CC some time ago--then found out it was true.

If you sit down and look at the glass at the right angle, you can see right into your neighbor's balcony(with the reflection).:p

Had ocean view on my first cruise a year ago and this year I didn't get a balcony but we had an obstructed ocean view with the french doors and it was nice to be able to open the doors and get fresh air and hear the ocean.....

We had a balcony one time. We went back to an outside the next two cruises. Loved all of them. The balcony was my favorite, but you can go back to an outside. Don't know about inside-never had one. We got a balcony for our next cruise because it is a 12 day and,I believe, worth it for this particular cruise. I've never had a bad room on a cruise ship.

DW and I booked an OV (window not portal - I always wanted to stare out the window from my cabin while sailing the seven seas) for our 1st cruise on the Fantasy. We fell in love with cruising!

We booked another OV on the Victory and were surprised with a balcony upgrade. For us, we will NEVER book anything but a balcony. We just returned from the April Fools Day, 4\1-4\9, cruise aboard the Liberty where we enjoyed cabin 1006 - 1st balcony, top most deck, port side. No one on top of us, no one in front us! We practically had the entire Promenade bow to our selves!

It means so much to stand or sit out on the "patio" when we approach a port for our first time or leave that port after enjoying the day ashore. Watching the sun rise or set from the privacy of our own little world can't be beat. DW likes to sit out there and read while I enjoy a cigar after an evening in the casino.

A balcony is as much a part of cruising as the buffet lines are. I can't imagine one without the other.
