so, we get to nassau at like 8AM and leave at 3AM the next morning...we have been there a couple of times before....so our plan is.....ferry to paradise island, wander around there, visit Ocean Club (we spent our honeymoon there many years ago) and then Atlantis and the casino...take the ferry back...then maybe hit the straw market real quick on the way to Cable Beach and their casino....native food along the way probably...and then back to the ship for the evening...does this sound overly ambitious? are the carriage rides worth the expense?

Clearly you are delusional.

Atlantis is low on any list,

Senor Frogs is nothing but a glorified chain resturant, and

and to think the gators can kick anyone is a joke.

See the BCS game this year?

Oh so many Nassau choices!

I'm docking overnight (10AM Friday to 6AM Saturday) and am considering:

Doing an excursion through Carnival (Blackbeard snorkeling or Yellowbird party boat) but am curious about the quality of snorkeling available for both. I am fairly easy to please and have had limited snorkeling experience so I really don't know good from great, just good from really awful.

Doing a private excursion, Stuart's Cove is supposed to be great?

Wandering around Nassau on our own - we can probably fit this in no matter what else we decide to do. We'd like to walk up the Queen's staircase, check out the strawmarket (especially the knock-off purse shopping - anyone know if the designer imitations are leather or plastic?), take a buggy ride for the romance factor, eat some conch fritters and rum cakes, etc.

Check out the Atlantis - probably won't do the aquaventure portion because it might just be too expensive, especially considering there are other fun things to do...but maybe we'll see the lobby and the digs after 6pm when they are free?

Go to BCH and pay the $15 for the day pass and snorkel, explore, hang out.

Ride public transportation to some other beach area (suggestions?) and bring our own snorkel stuff.

We are two young, healthy students (go Gators!) who are interested in getting the most out of our brief visit to Nassau but don't have an unlimited budget. Any and all suggestions or reviews are welcome!

Try some Conch Fritters and a Cold Kalik

Check out the Forts and Queens Staircase/Water Tower

Take a snorkeling tour to one of our reefs

Check out the Straw Market for bargains.

Take a jitney to the Fish Fry for a native lunch

Spend a few hours exploring the locals beaches

Head to one of our casinos.

Take in a native show. (either fire limbo or native band)

Take the Powerboat Adventure to Exuma and feed the sharks and iguanas.

Take a ferryboat to Paradise Dock and check out the Marina and marina Village at Atlantis.

Visit Versailles Gardens and the Cloisters at Ocean Club (open to the public)

Check out our marching Flamingoes at the Ardastra Zoo.

Scuba dive with sharks or snorkel above them

Check out the Booze Cruise

Relax at the waters edge with a Bahama Mama in hand and a local band playing calypso and soca nearby.

Take a tour to a private island and hang out with the stingrays

Parasail over Paradise Island

Crew on an America's Cup racing boat.

Check out a local regatta if there's one in town.

Talk with the locals and get the island vibe.

Shall I go on....

Scubagirrl, in your top 10 list, where can I find the native show? and the Fish Fry native lunch?

What great info. I only have 10 more days until my first cruise.

I saw something about some "mini subs" that go about 3 - 5 feet under water that sounded better than glass bottom boats. Does anyone know anything about these?

Thanks for helping a true Georgia Bulldog that is stuck in total orange country!

Can someone tell me how to get from the ship dock to Senor Frogs in Nassau?

Thank you! :)

you should be asking how you'll get back.:D

get off the ship, go through the terminal building and go right along the waterfront. It is at the end of the street I believe.

I appreciate the list of off-beat things to do in Nassau. I'll be there for nearly 2 whole days and can't decide on anything to do. It seems most people just want to pay a lot of money to camp on a beach for a few hours... IMO I could lounge on the ship and save a lot of money. I want to DO something, SEE something....

I looked at the Powerboat Adventures and it looks AMAZING. If the pictures are true to life, the beach and the reef look awesome. However a $400 excursion is a bit steep (for 2), and I can't swim so I'm unsure of a snorkeling excursion.

I'd like to see the city... local things, not just giant corporate run hotels. The staircase and the fort look nice, gardens sound good. Is there anything else?

I'm a total sucker for aquariums so I'll probably try to get into the Dig after 9pm...

I don't know... just having difficulty finding ways to fill up 2 days for a reasonable amount of money.

Wondering what to do from the Carnival Pride which gets into Nassau at 11AM? Probably won't be off the ship until 12Noon. What would you do Scubagirl? We are a family of 4 with 2 boys ages 12 and 8.

Get off the ship and talk to some of the cab drivers. Find one that interests you and take a spin around town. We had "Elvis" and he was very knowledgeable about Nassau. Took us all around and showed us the high points. It's always nice getting information from the locals.

Take a right out of the cruise area (marked by a fence, and VERY push scooter rentals) Walk a quarter of a mile and you will walk right into the low class dive that is Senor Frogs

Definately catch one of the cabbies at the dock. We had Mike and he was great! drove us all around for 2-3 hrs. saw all the sights, answered all our questions. Stopped for shopping. I think we paid 30 per person, cant remember exact price, but it was reasonable.

Hey Scubagirl,

I will be in Nassau next week for a few days and will be staying at the British Colonial Hilton. I am interested in local bands/shows. Do you know who is playing there now? I know your post regarding the Hilton was from 2006. If not, where is a good place to hear a native band or see a show?

Thanks.

No kidding... I went with my mom and sister last year and we were stumbling back! Thank goodness it is a short walking distance, althought it felt like forever with two yardstick drinks!
