There may not be 10 things to do in Nassau! A few things on my list would be:

1) Paradise Island to visit Atlantis Resort & Casino complex including the shopping complex. Visit to The Digs is pretty cool although not worth $30 in my opinion. If your ship is in port late you can go there after 9pm and see The Digs for free after the guards leave.

2) Self-guided walking tour up the Queen's Staircase to the Water Tower and Fort Fincastle. Beautiful views downward to the city, ships in port and of Atlantis.

3) Bay Street shopping.

4) Senor Frogs for a cold yard of alcoholic libation and a decent logo store.

5) If you're there in fall, find a sports bar and watch the Gators kick Tennessee's A - - !!!!!

If I had to pick between the Stuart's Cove Snorkel and the Powerboat Adventure to Exuma which would you recommend? I will be in Nassau from 7:00am to 7:00am the next day. I've been snorkeling a number of times and been to many islands. I'm looking for something "different" than your average excursion. My husband and I are in our early 30's and this will be a trip without kids.

Thanks!

The Powerboat adventure has something for everyone. Snorkeling, shark feedings, iguanas, native lunch and a lot of fun. If you can afford the price tag.. go for it. It's unforgetable.

If you choose Stuart Cove, do the afternoon tour.. it usually includes snorkeling 30 feet above feeding sharks.

What would you do if you only were in port from 7:00am (don't know how long to get off ship)...and must be back on board by 1:30pm!!

What do we have TIME to do?

Wish we had longer!

June:(

If you are interested in a tour... I'd do it from the ship. That timing is very iffy. You should be able to pick up a beach break to Blackbeards or Pearl Island, or snorkeling at Anthol Island in the morning from a ships tour. (Most tours don't go out until 1pm, so a ships tour is the way to go)

You could go to the Zoo (www.ardastra.com)

Hang out on a nearby local beach or resort beach at Cable or Cabbage Beach. You can walk to Lighthouse beach, or take a cab to either of the others.

Shop at the Straw market and enjoya drink or lunch upstairs at Iguanas or one of the other spots in town.

Take a carriage ride around town.

Enjoy a walking historical tour of Nassau.

Check out the public areas at Atlantis.

I will be in Nassua on May 5 and would LOVE more info on any native shows that may be available. We are in port 10am till 7am the next morning. The powerboat Adventure sounds fun too, is that out of Nassua?

Thanks

The Kings and Knight Show at the Nassau Beach Hotel - Cable Beach is a combination native dance, limbo and steel band.

Blue Marlin on Paradise island has a steel band /limbo/fire eater show with dinner ($10 add'l) This is great family fun.

Or catch Jay Mitchell and Hot Ice at the Palm Court at the nearby British Colonial Hilton. He's a local celeb who entertains with calypso, soca and R&B. A nice lounge environment with a small dance floor. Very entertaining.

Show starts at 9 / Jay sings at 10. 2 drink minimun on weekends.

Cafe Johnny Canoes and Kafe Kalik at Cable Beach have local bands most nites. Johnny Canoes has a junkanoo rush on Fridays at 8pm. You can have dinner, or just sit at the bar.

As for the Powerboat Adventure.. yes, it's out of Nassau. Not sure where the pick up spot it.. but I'm sure it's convenient.

Clearly you are delusional.

Atlantis is low on any list,

Senor Frogs is nothing but a glorified chain resturant, and

and to think the gators can kick anyone is a joke.

where exactly does the cruiseline take you for the Blackbeard beach break?

Is it Cable Beach or some other beach? Wondering if there are hotels near where they take you so we could rent jet skis?

Blackbeards Cay is a small island off the coast of Cable Beach. It's shared with Sandals. There's no hotel on the island, but you can rent jet ski's from independent vendors.

Here's a link you may find interesting. This is NOT the tour you're going on.. But it is the Beach you will be using. It's really a nice day on a beautiful white sandy beach.

Thank you so much for the quick reply and the great information. Very much appreciated!.

My son will be glad to know he can jetski. He's 16, do you know if there is an age limit to drive the jetski without me sitting on the back? In Mexico it's 16 but don't know about the Bahamas. Any guesses as to how much to rent them? Want to make sure he has enough spending money.;)

Thanks again

I believe he has to be 16 or at least look that age. He should have ID.. since they are cracking down on the age thing lately.

As for price. It's somewhat negotiable, depending on the weather and how many are interested that day.. Can range from $60-$80. for a 20/30 minute ride.

If he says he's only got $60 on him.. I'm sure they'll take it.

Wow that was fast.

He has no problem passing as 16. He's 6'2'' and looks older so he won't have any problems. The price sounds about right in comparison to other places we've rented them except Costa Maya where we got an hour for $75.

Thanks again, you are great!:)

Scubagirl, thanks for all your help, you've given some great ideas.

We wont be docking until 1pm, and leave again at 7pm, so not much time at all. Are there beaches nearby the port to walk to, with jet skis to rent?

Any other suggestions for the short 6 hours we are there?

Thanks again! :)

Are there casinos besides Atla/ntis? We're thinking of doing the walking tour, are there any casinos along the way?

There's a casino at Cable Beach, but neither are along the walking tour. The Closest is Atlantis, but the Crystal Palace is also easy to get to by cab in the evening, or jitney during the day.

Atlantis by cab at nite, cab or ferry during the day.

Atlantis is glitzy. Crystal Palace is more low keyed with bigger payouts and looser slots.

Scubagirrl, you are such a great help, thank you. I have a few questions...

Is there another aquarium in Nassau beside Atlantis? I was in Nassau when I was about 10 years old and remember this place that was like an underwater observatory and also you could pet little creatures like sea cucumbers and star fish. Does that sound familiar?

Would you recommend the Ardastra Gardens for two adults?

We will be docked over night on a tuesday in February, is there someplace you would recommend to hear some local music, perhaps a local show?

TIA, Jackie

The aquarium you remember was at Crystal Cay. It was destroyed by a hurricane several years ago, and there is no thoughts on reopening it.

The structure is still visible, but it's unusable.

Ardastra Gardens is a great place for adults. It's a pleasant and peaceful santuary with Marching Flamingos, peacocks and even a pot-bellied pig roaming freely. It's a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

For local music, you might like Jay Mitchell and Hot Ice. They perform nitely at the British Colonial Hilton next to the Straw Market near to the dock. Jay is a legend in the bahamas. and croons soca tunes as well as R&B. You'll hear Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson and the Righteous Bros, along with the local soca and calypso beats. Show starts at 9pm, Jay starts at 10. It's lounge set up, in the Palm Court, with a small dance floor and drink service.

Free during the week.. 2 drink minimun Thurs - Saturday.

The one thing I would suggest NOT to do in Nassau is anything having to do with illegal drugs of any kind.

Bahamian prisons have been ranked among Amnesty International's "ten worst in the world".

Not even your worst enemy would deserve spending a night in Fox Hill.
