Cabin safe question??

We have never had a problem nor spoken to anyone who has had money or other valuables taken from the cabin safes onboard Princess ships.

I do agree that if I were traveling with thousands in cash, I might consider placing part of that cash in the safe at the purser's desk. It would probably be a good idea to split it up into 2 locations.

However, we both travel with some cash and some traveler's checks.

Leaving tomorrow for the Sapphire Princess.

Do you feel safe leaving cash in the safe in your cabin??

Absolutely. One suggestion is to bring a ziplock bag and put your things in that before putting them into the safe. That way, you're unlikely to leave something behind or get something caught under the lip of the safe.

The zip-lock bag suggestion for cabin safes is a good one. The design, with a lip at the bottom, invites things to get overlooked and forgotten!

Aside from that, I think the safes are very secure & safe.

We have always felt secure using the safe in the cabin. Never had a problem on any ship. I did read on these boards a few days ago about a theft on a ship which they determined had been an inside job from 2 separate cabins.

I like the idea of the baggie...also helpful if you had to clear out in the middle of the night in case of emergency.

Thanks for any and all responses.

We've never had a problem with our safe at all. In fact, if it would make you more at ease, feel free to use the safe in our room anytime!

What a great suggestion. On our last cruise I went nuts trying to find my watch. I practically tore the cabin apart. It was found under the front lip of the safe. :(

My partner and I just just cruised 10 day on the Dawn - I closed the casino every nite. Our room attendant was JJ, I tipped him 20 us within' 30 minutes of boarding, we had 1,000 in the safe and I always had 500 - 1000 in casino chips in the room at all time out in the open, not a penny was touched.

savin' up now for my next cruise

Just make sure you check the safe after you "hear" it lock. We had a problem on another cruise line, the safe made the "sound" as if were locking but if you pulled on the door it would open up again. Unfortunately we learned of the problem to late. All of our things in the safe disappeared the second day of the cruise. After that is when we noticed the problem. It turned out to be an inside job. Our empty wallets and passports were later found in the incinerator. Everything else was gone for good.

We were on the Sapphire Princess last month and had no problems at all with the safe. And a wonderful cruise.

It's easy to double-check the Princess safes to make sure they're locked -- there's a little digital window that will say whether it's locked or unlocked. I always check it anyway and give the safe handle a little tug to make sure it's locked.

Never had a problem with the safe. Now you can use the old detective trick of taking a hair strand and when you shut the safe door put the hair strand so the safe door closes on it and holds it in place. Then when you came back you can see if someone has been in the safe if the hair strand is not where you left it. Use a very fine hair strand so it is not noticeable.

We always keep our passports and wallets in the safe while on the shipWe were on the Star Princess when the fire occured. It was very easy to grab the passports and wallets prior to leaving our cabin. I know while we were sitting in the muster station, contemplating that everything in our cabin might be destroyed, we were so glad that we had those documents.
