Rare Lois R Posted April 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2006 :) Hi, just wanted to drop a line......I had an absolutely fantastic time on Zenith....almost a 7 nighter;) (6).....everything was excellent. Service, Food, just everything. For those of you going soon.......enjoy her. I know the crew will be rested due to the fact they are sailing TODAY up to NJ with no pax on board. They left this afternoon about 3:30 and I know the first Bermuda cruise is Saturday. We had a great dinner table...Hi Kathy and George:D and we had the same waiter I had in February..Milan. Outstanding:D Assistant was Eri......also wonderful. My cabin attenadant was Garbrial from India and Felix was his Asst. I was in cabin 5078.....window. Any questions.....ask away!.... FinelyCruising Posted April 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Lois I don't have my settings for signatures cause it gets so big, so Thanks for repeating yourself and letting me know. October....only six short months away....you know how fast the time flies when you have a cruise to look forward to. ;)
BrooklynGirl2 Posted April 20, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois...thanks for checking in. Glad to hear you had another good time on Zenith. It's tough coming home to face the laundry and work the next day . Just focus on your next cruise. So how was your weather? How were the seas? I'm glad to hear the crew gets some time off before they start the Bermuda run. I think all those short cruises were tough for them, especially the spring break cruises. Did they comment that they were glad to get back to the longer Bermuda run? Who was your maitre'd? Just wondering if Jose/Portugal and Paolo/Italy were still on board. And...do you know if they are still refurbishing cabins with new carpets and soft goods? Thanks and welcome home.:)
Andy Posted April 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois ! Welcome home. I am glad to hear you had a great time. With Zenith headed up to NJ today, the Caribbean season is officially over :(. Did you happen to see Diego ?
Rare Lois R Posted April 20, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Brooklyn:) ....may I ask your name? As for my Maitr'd....Jose was still on board but my guy was Virelo? I am misspelling it...but he is wonderful and from Romania. And we actually had 2 Sommeiliers~Maurios (head Sommeilier) and then Myriam...extremely nice too. Our table had wine every night:D so I think they liked us LOL Oh, Palo is still there too! Have a quick story about a couple one table over from us...so nice. The guy sang on the last night of Karoke (EXCELLENT VOICE). He sang "Fly Me To The Moon" and dedicated it to his girlfriend. Then at the end of the song he took a little box out of his pocket and got down on one knee and proposed to her! She said YES:D As for the crew, they are so ready for just 2.5 days without ANY PAX! And I can't blame them either. They still have to work but in a MUCH MUCH more relaxed atmosphere.;) But yes, I do think they are ready for the Bermuda Itinerary. In Feb, Jose was the Restaurant Manager (filling in) but this cruise the actual Manager was back. His name is Medovoy and when I get my pictures on a disc I will post them onto my webshots and you can see him~talk about HANDSOME:D
Rare Lois R Posted April 20, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Andy:) Diego left for vacation! You know I saw him in February....so he left sometime in the last 6-7 weeks. Yes, Caribbean Season is OFFICIALLY over. I spoke to the Restaurant Manager (Medavoy) for a nice long chat in Cova the other night. He told me they have not been told what the Zenith Itinerary will be after April 2007:eek: but he did say they are not selling her (yet). But he thinks this year will be her last Bermuda Run.....and maybe she will be sailing from Tampa alot more. I was surprised because I thought the Bermuda run was very popular. BEARFACE Posted April 20, 2006 #11 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois, Welcome home, and glad that you had a fabulous time. We will be sailing on her again in September. We’re a little scared about all the talk of selling Zenith, being she was our first ship of any kind. That’s when we fell in love with cruising and Celebrity. Island Cruises already has Horizon, they can’t take away Zenith too. If Zenith goes, do you know if they plan on sending Century to Bermuda? If so, St. George will be off as a stop because she won’t fit through the cut. How does she look after dry dock? Thanks for any answers you can provide. BrooklynGirl2 Posted April 20, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois...you can call me Lori :). You had Viorel as your maitre'd. I know him. We had him on our first Zenith cruise last June. Talk about handsome and charming ...;):D... I look forward to seeing your pictures. I am really hoping they keep Zenith as I think it's the perfect sized ship for Bermuda. Like someone else mentioned, Century or any C-class ship would be too big for the St. George Cut. I know there has been a lot of talk about enlarging the cut and the docks in both Hamilton and St. George but it's a political hot potato and I don't see it happening soon. Our sommelier both trips was Fernando who was fabulous but I think he's off on either Connie or Millie now. He was a lot of fun and we had a lot of wine :p;). Thanks for the info. CruznTom Posted April 20, 2006 #13 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois, I'm so glad you had a wonderful cruise on the Zenith. Our last cruise on the Zenith consisted of Spring Breakers who challenged the staff to the max. We in turn didn't get the service that is normally provided by the Celebrity staff. As we were disembarking I talked to one of the staff members who said that they were looking forward to a normal cruise and normal cruisers. I'm guessing that would be you. :)
Rare Lois R Posted April 20, 2006 Author #14 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Tom,:) Well, I think the crew had a better time...;) though our sailing had more than 440 kids on it. I was told 200 were teens and the rest were under 13. I am being totally honest and will say most were VERY well behaved! Of course you saw them, too many to miss but most were always supervised. And I must say, there were LOTS of really little ones....and they were cutie pies too! Lori, seems ALL the men (waiters, assts, maitrd's) are handsome:D Kevin, I heard nothing about Century going to Bermuda. I did hear this would be Zenith's last run there and it doesn't look like any X ships will be there next season. Of course, I am just telling you what I was told..this was by the Restaurant Manager. So if Corp changes their minds it will be for all of us to know. Anyway, I have to go to work:rolleyes:
jacank Posted April 20, 2006 #15 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois.. I'm glad you had a great cruise. We leave in 9 days and I can't wait. It's a family celebration (my mom's birthday) and we're taking a bunch of first time cruisers. You mentioned you were in cabin 5078 - window. We have cabins 5072, 5080 and 5108 - all inside. Do you know if they have been refurbished. Any info at all will be appreciated.
lisiamc Posted April 20, 2006 #16 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois, Glad to hear that you had a good time. We were looking foreward to going to Bermuda on Zenith next year - even booked a phantom cruise on board to hold onto the credit. But from what you say, it looks like we might be going on a different ship instead! Lisa
bilgeboyPa Posted April 20, 2006 #17 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hey Lois, How are you?? Long time no talk. So glad to hear you liked Zenith. I will be aboard May 27th. Can't wait. Let me ask.....The only ships I was on were Century and Mercury. Is Zentih similar, totally different? I know Gail liked it alot. I hear that Zenith probably has the best staff. So if I loved Century, I will probably keel over with joy on this one right?:D Is there any MUST SEE or MUST do on Zenith? Jeff
Rare Lois R Posted April 20, 2006 Author #18 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Good to see you as well.:) .....I know a bunch of you no longer chat here...... As for Zenith crew......as much as I truely love them on Century, my last 2 cruises have been on Zenith and this week was really special. The only way I can describe it is I feel as though I have bonded with them. May sound corney, but when I hugged Elsa good-bye I cried........(she is a friend from the Excursion desk). I can't recall the last time I got so emotional when disembarking. They are absolutely outstanding. And for "must sees"....please see Anna in the Martini Bar:D .....tell her Lois says hello!!!! I found a new Martini too.......creamy chocolate/raspberry.... WONDERFUL:) I need to get to work........anything else, ask away. Will check in later. Oh, I have Mercury booked for October but right now I almost want to change it.....and see my pals on Zenith again........oooyyyy!
floridacruisers Posted April 20, 2006 #19 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Lois R It's been 1995 since our last sojourn on the Zenith and I was wondering if they have that delicious sushi bar on her. We are taking her Jan. 29 out of Tampa for 11 nights. We love the sushi bars on the other X ships and hope they have it on the Zenith. Also, would you say her food is comparable to the other X ships. Despite all the grumbling by many of these posters, we have only sent back one meal (not a bad meal, just not to my liking) in the 15 X cruises we have been on. Not a bad %. Thanks Phil and Laraine
BrooklynGirl2 Posted April 20, 2006 #20 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Although I have not eaten there, Zenith does have a Sushi bar. As for the food...I don't have much basis for comparison as far as other X ships but I found the food on Zenith delicious and we enjoyed each and every meal in the dining room. I am a picky eater and am used to eating in good NYC restaurants and Zenith food was excellent IMO. The service we had was also impeccable. Zenith is known for her great crew. Have a wonderful cruise.
Rare Lois R Posted April 20, 2006 Author #21 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Phil and Lorraine:) Sushi was still there.....and though I didn't eat any it looked very good:)...oh wait, I did grab one piece LOL...and just kept walking. I think the Chef thought I was a bit nuts LOL As for the rest of the food I thought everything was great. In all my sailings I had never tried the salmon before but tried it this cruise~FABULOUS:D
ChicagoMermaid Posted April 20, 2006 #22 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi Lois! Glad you had a great trip on the Zenith. We are booked on a December sailing--can I ask what your thoughts were concerning the physical condition of the ship? Thanks!
Rare Lois R Posted April 20, 2006 Author #23 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Hi,:) overall impression of the ship......honestly? She looked fine to me. I needed a new shower curtain, which I received right away. (The bottom was moldy). It wasn't horrible or anything but when I showed it to my cabin attendant he felt really bad and I had new one pronto. I am not one to look at lots of details though...in other words I don't walk around looking to see if the carpets are worn. (But that is just me). Actually ever since I found these boards I probably look more now than I did at the beginning but I have not seen anything really bad. Would I sail her again? You bet:D
gb923 Posted April 21, 2006 #24 Share Posted April 21, 2006 I was on the Apr 8 sailing in cabin 5072. We had three people in the room (it has two flip-down beds from the walls). The condition of the room was just fine for us. Nothing jumped out at me as a major problem. The toilet flush was inconsistent, but never caused an incident. We had a great time and would go again in a heartbeat! I've been in cruise withdrawl all week. Missing my nightly drinks in the cova.. Hi Lois.. I'm glad you had a great cruise.
