Smoking in Cabin

Hi there i am not a smoker myself but i will be traveling with a few people who do smoke and i see people talking about smoking in a cabin. Are you able to do this in all the cabins or is it like a hotel where there are smoking and non-smoking rooms? Dosent matter to me but i was just curious since i bet a few of my friends are going to be happy to hear they can smoke in there cabin if that is the case.

I sure hope it does matter to you, if youre living in the cabin with them, then they shouldnt smoke while youre inside due to Second Hand smoking.

If you have a balcony you can open it up and air it out, or they can smoke outside, just dont flick the butt over the side.

There are no No smoking/Smoking cabins. You can smoke in them all. Just PLEASE be careful. We all saw what happened to the Star Princess.

Kind of a catch 22. If in fact the fire on the Star had anything to do with smoking, it's most likely that it was smoking on the balcony and not smoking in the cabin which caused it since there are sprinklers in the cabin but not on the balcony. So, it may be that smoking in the cabin is actually safer than smoking on a balcony. Maybe not as considerate to others, but safer.

Fred, with all due respect... I do believe that is up to the OP. I'm sure the OP can make the decision as to whether or not he/she wants to be in a cabin with smokers. There are many people married to smokers, that don't smoke. So I don't know that we have any right to tell the OP's friends or family what they can and can't do in their own cabin :o

To the OP.... if your friends have an inside or OV cabin, they won't want to smoke much in there, since it can get a little smokey... also, they may want to bring along some air freshener... the "smokeless" ashtrays work well according to many on these boards. Good luck!!

You are so right, but in todays age, who knows if this OP is fully educated to understand the results of a harmless second hand smoking, maybe after reading my post they can do their own research online and see what a cool black lung looks like, or also if they found a friend with lung cancer and understood the pain they are going through and the money wasted at the hospitals maybe the OP would seriously put his/her foot down while in those cabins :D

Sorry GoinCrusing if this hits a high note because you are a smoker, but Im not and I dont care for those that do smoke around me while on a cruise on vacation. Thats the main reason why I cruised on the Paradise when she was a Non-Smoking ship, I didnt have to take my suit to the cleaners when I got back to get rid of that aweful nasty smoke odor. :D

This concludes my post, flame away :)

FIRST OF ALL Winnfrid, I am NOT a smoker  Second of all, it OBVIOUSLY didn't hit a high note because, again... NOT A SMOKER.

Thirdly, the OP would have to live in a cave to NOT know that smoking was bad for you and that long term exposure to second hand smoke can be harmful... again, NOT OUR PLACE nor our business to make the decisions for others. This is Cruise Critic... if you want to preach about smoking, there are places to do that, this isn't one of those places. I lost a friend in October to lung cancer, but this isn't the place to talk about it... the OP can make his/her own decision, and certainly didn't ask for a lecture. I would suggest if you don't want to be on a ship that allows smokers, you find one that does ;)

Any other assumptions you want to make about me while you are at it??

I wonder why we need to be soooo sarcastic on the board? I didn't realize that by asking a simple question, certain boarders would feel they have the right to pontificate their view to us all. We are adults and have a right to make our own decisions without being preached at. Who are you to say that money is being wasted in hospitals? My Mom who happened to have smoked, is currently in the hospital. Would you have me tell them not to waste their time or money to help her? Please think about what you are saying before you post.

This is one issue were I get a bit annoyed. I feel that they should have smoking and non smoking cabins. I think that is very unfair that they allow smoking in every cabin. I certainly do not want to smell someones smoke in my room. I have not had an issue yet, so far every room I have had has not smelled too bad, but I know that one of these days it might be an issue. I just feel that there should be some smoking and non smoking rooms. Don't get me started on the people who end up smoking in non smoking rooms, they are just ignorant.

Carnival does a great job removing the Smoke odor for these cabins, like my last cruise, one of the CC Members from my roll call could smell it, I told her to call house keeping, they came right away and had it cleaned, the rest of the cruise she was ok.

The problem is that they can not totally get it all out, just the Odor and these small particales will still get on your items and clothing. They need a total water wash down in those rooms, thats why I do agree with you that they should have Port and Starboard Non and smoking rooms on the ship.

You folks are just dreaming if you believe Carnival has these miracle solvents that remove smoke from a cabin that his been smoked in for a week or week after week. If you don't smell it more than likely it's because the previous ones did not smoke. They don't wash down the walls and ceilings nor do they change out the carpet and bed covers every week. Cigarette smoke absorbs into these materials and stays there until those items are either cleaned down, shampooed or removed. I too believe that all cruise ships should offer non-smoking cabins for their guest. Why? Because the motel industry has done it for the past 30 years and it does seem to have caught on and be acceptable to the majority. The smokers can have their smoked up stinking rooms and the non-smokers are happy to breath free. Everybody is happy. On a cruise ship the non-smokers are never happy. Funny how a smoker is fine in a non-smoking room but a non-smoker is not fine with a smoking room. And yes some smokers are ruder than others and you do get those that love to book their balcony rooms so they can blow smoke on either side of them into the balconies of their non-smoking neighbors. So much for paying for an upgrade when your neighbor takes the fun out of it. What I have noticed is there is no real measure of how bad smoke is on a ship. Some weeks it is full of smokers and other weeks only a few and that really makes a difference. Last week on the Celebration I was totally surprised to see the Karaoke lounge has gone non-smoking. And my week did not have that many "bad" smokers and even the casino was breathable most of the time. Very pleasent to have a week that you don't have to run from the smoke. Hopefully in my lifetime of cruising I will live to see the day the cruise companies offer non-smoking cabins and catch up to the rest of the world!

As a proud smoker, I do have a serious question.

I will be boarding the Carnival Fantasy in a few days (WHOO HOO! GO ME GO ME!!!) and was wondering if there was any place on the boat in which I couldn't/wouldn't be allowed to smoke?

Can I smoke near the pool? Dining room? Bar? Club?

Thanks for your input!

Just a word of caution. I recently cruised with a group. One nonsmoker shared a cabin (outside, but no balcony) with a smoker and thought that would be fine. In about 2 days the nonsmoker was really distressed because of all the smoke in the cabin; very much worse than she had expected. By the time the cruise ended she had vowed never to room with a smoker again.

There are a few indoor smoking areas, there is a sign posted in those areas like the lounge close to the Atrium, No smoking in the Dining room for sure, and I beleive outdoors you can smoke only on one side of the ship, could be the Port side. Thanks Duck !!! its the Starboard side.

Smoking on the outside decks is permitted on one side of the ship (usually starboard). There is no smoking in the Dining Rooms or Show Lounge. Smoking is permitted in some bars.

I was trapped in the very back of a Plane with the smokers, It was the longest 5 hour ride ever  That was back when smoking was allowed on flights, Poor airline stewards are all probably gone by now.

The Starboard side of the ship is smoking on deck, the cigar bar, disco, 1 of the pool bars, casino and promanade bar are all smoking.

I would like to know what the hell these ships are made of if 1 cig could do that. Would think the balcony would be metal

All new ships are made of highly flamable plastic these days. Gone are the old metal tanker ships of old. Saves on fuel since it's so much lighter, however the front of the ship and sides are made of high impact resistant plastic like your car bumber to ward off those huge icebergs on those Alaskian cruises. The decks are made of that particle board fake wood and that stuff is full of glue. Glue burns pretty quickly. It would be so much easier to just band smoking altogether on a ship. Their fire insurance would go way down not to mention how much they would save on that miracle spray stuff they use in the rooms to rid it of stale smoke smells and they would pass the savings onto reduce ticket fares. YEAH!!!!

Considering their revenue would drop SIGNIFICANTLY, the reduction in their "fire insurance" would be the least of their concerns.

WHY, WHY does every single thread where someone simply ASKS about smoking in the cabin, turn into this? Turn into a thread where people start demanding non smoking ships (tried it, remember... it didn't work, there is a reason why no other mass cruise line has tried it).

Sure, they reduced fares on the Paradise, because they COULDN'T SELL it otherwise!!! Considering the revenue that would be GONE due to large group bookings and large family groups, they would soon go out of business... period. Even many non smokers (such as myself :D) would not cruise on a non smoking ship... too many people I cruise with smoke. It's NOT going to happen ANY time soon... so why keep doing this to yourself? I know, you are going to all turn this into an ugly thread... it'll get pulled... Everyone will talk of cancer, and how all the smokers are going to kill them because they have to be exposed to a minute of their secondhand smoke  Seriously, it's so tired... use your comment card, otherwise, ya kind of have to get over it or find another vacation... Using CC as a soapbox for your own agenda isn't fair to the rest of the members who come here to actually get a question answered (as the OP tried to do here  )

You know, I'm so sick of your canned response time after time. Do you cut and paste and save this for every smoking thread?????
