Penny Slots??

I've seen it mentioned once or twice that there are penny slots on board. I know in the past we have played the nickles, but I don't remember there being penny slots. We usually bring a couple of rolls of nickles that will last most of the week. We obviously aren't in it for the money - just a few minutes before the dinning room opens or after the midnight show etc. If there are penny slots we may bring even a few more rolls of them from the change jar :)

Yes there are some penny slots, I didn't notice them until I saw the big ol Penny sign on them, of an actual penny. :) This was on Glory anyways.

I don't remeber seeing any on the Legend, but the ones at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun don't actually take pennies, you have to put a bill in...

Some slots are where you have to pick the demoniations.

Definitely penny slots on the Destiny - and I actually saw a few winners. Okay not big cause they're pennies, but a couple of hundred dollars!

As Serene said, some slots are multi denomination - but some are pennies only.

Maybe your making a joke, but just in case, penny slot dont take coinage. Dont get me wrong, they WILL take your money, but in the form of Dollar bills or S&S charge.

 

It wont be long before the ships are like Vegas and only take paper in all the machines:( and cashing out will be in the form of a ticket.

I won $90 on a penny machine on the Fantasy on my 4/10 cruise! IT took about 15 minutes for the machine to total it up penny by penny!

When I cashed out I got quarters!

Some of the penny slots are part of multi-denominational machines. You can indicate if you want to play 1 cent, 2 cents or 5 cents. Being the cheapskate I am, I always click on the 1 cent! :D

On the Fascination over the weekend we saw some of the penny machines in a cluster.I remember thinking "wow that guy just hit for 800 credits",thats when we noticed it was in pennys.

Haven't been on a cruise yet and don't gamble to often or too good but on the same note, the last casino I was in (Hard Rock, in miami) we played a nickey machine and the least number of credits you could play was 9, so the nickel machine actually was a 45 cent machine, is this the case on the ships. Imagination in June.

No thats right, it wasn't a nickey machine we played it was a nickel, but nickey's or nickels it was still 45 cents.

Yes thats the case. On the Pride and the Paradise the penny machines had 20 lines so it was 20 cents to play all lines. You could be up to 5 cents per line so you would still be playing a dollar at a time if you were to play the maximum.

About putting money in, I know the nickel machine paid in nickels, so I would assume the penny machine probably would too. You can bring your pennies with you, just cash them in at the casino desk. There was never a line there, probably woudln't take long to do, and just get cash from them. Its like using a coinstar machine minus the fee :D

We were on the Celebration in March snd sailing on her tomorrow, too, and I discovered late in the cruise last time that some of the nickel slots were actually multidenominational and you could set the machine for pennies, nickels, or quarters. Of course, you don't actually play pennies, just stick your bills in the machine and go! They were 20-line games, so I much preferred to play it as pennies loaded than nickels loaded! There were also quarter poker machines that you could set as quarters, half-dollars, dollars, or 2 dollars. I really like the choice, although I only play dollars on poker and my $100 payout came out in quarters not dollar tokens. I wish the casinos were coinless and you got receipts instead of always having to cash out in coins.....they need to get with the times!

I also wish they had tickets, like they do at foxwoods, would be nice, I'm sure someday they will. They do have it so that you can put the money on your sail & sign, not sure exactly how it works, but I'm sure someone can explain it better, it was explained on the tv in the room, but I didn't pay attention.

The Valor also has penny machines...they do not take pennies though!!! They take paper money. If I remember correctly, some paid out in nickels and some paid out in quarters.:p

so im assuming that if you can put your s&s card in the slot machine you can use this method for getting cash, like an atm machine? If you just cash out? I think i read somewhere that getting money from the casino cage on your s&s card would cost you a 3% service charge. I'm just wondering if I can get my hands on extra cash for the port stops if i need to, without paying a service charge?

If you get money from a slot machine using your S&S card then yes, you can cash it out, but there is still that 3% fee tacked on.

 

When you do a transaction on a slot machine it will tell you if it is free or if a 3% fee is involved. For example, you put $20 cash into a slot and play until you have $50 in credits left. For no fee you can transfer that into your "players bank" on the S&S card. If you go to another slot you can tranfer money from the "players bank" on your S&S card to play that slot with no fee. But when you want an advance added to your S&S card in the casino there is no way around the 3% fee.

 

They have a small booklet in the casino that explains how to set up your "players bank" on your S&S card. It is nice because you don't have to carry a bucket of coins around anymore. At any time you can cash out your "players bank", and you must do so the last night of the cruise or you'll loose that money.

I have seen Penny machines on the Legend also. They seem to be hitting pretty well. (Even though it has to be a huge hit to really add up).

Will be cruising with Carnival for the first time here in a few weeks on the Conquest. I have cruised Royal and NCL, and never been charged a surcharge to take money out of the onboard account inside the casino. We always used that as our ATM when we wanted to gamble or have cash to go onshore. Definatly will not be taking this route on Carnival if there is a 3% charge. Glad I found out in advance, that way I can bring extra cash.

Those penny or multi denominational machines are VERY popular. You either have to get up real early and be sitting there when it opens or stay up realllly late and hope somebody falls asleep at the switch!:D
