mommas2tired Posted May 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Does anyone have any suggestions about where to stay in Oct close to the pier? I have only been there once and we drove down and sailed the same day this time we will go the day before.

zydecocruiser Posted May 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2006 Holiday Inn Select Convention Center is one of the closest ones. http://holiday-inn-select-new-orleans-convention-center.com/ Some more expensive ones would be: http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/MSYMC http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/MSYCN http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=CQLUOSY5N33EFJ31AOSMK3Q?ctyhocn=MSYCCES There are lots of hotels open in the area, and even more by October. Downtown and the French Quarter were mostly spared by Katrina and land along the river was high and dry. Some used to, and probably will still, offer "free" parking while you cruise as part of a package.
signman Posted May 15, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 15, 2006 Just about every hotel in either the Central Business District CBD, Warehouse District, or French Quarter could be considered near the port.
SAS21 Posted May 15, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2006 I live in the in one of the New Orleans suburban area's and all the hotels in the port area are open. like the previous poster said, that area was spared by katrina, other than minor wind damage. I don't stay at any of the hotels since I'm from here, but can tell you there are quite a few in walking distance to the port. Try anything near the convention center. JnK Posted May 21, 2006 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2006 The Hilton is next to the port on the river. You can also try that one. Not sure about free parking though. Worth looking into.

RDSLS Posted June 15, 2006 #9 Share Posted June 15, 2006 Hi, We stayed at the http://www.maisonstcharles.com/ several years ago. It was in the heart of the Garden District with a street car stop right out front. The room we had was very large and quiet. Burbon street via street car was about 10 minutes away. At that time they had a "Park and Cruise" special. If I recall correctly, the room was around $90 and we had to pay for one nights parking ($7 -??) But you didn't have to pay for parking beyond that. The morning of the cruise they took you to the terminal and picked you up upon your return - All for free! I would stay there again with no problems. I would bet by the time the cruises start leaving NOLA, they will offer a cruise package again. PS ---- I just called them to find out rates for ourselves. The room rate is $129 and no parking fees for the entire length of your voyage. They have stopped the free shuttle to and from the terminal, but I was told the taxi fare is about $14 each way. Hope this helps!
smalltimecruiser100 Posted June 16, 2006 #10 Share Posted June 16, 2006 2-3 miles from the Julia Street Cruise Ship Terminal by cab. A great hotel:) Don't know if it reopened after Katrina.
mlockwoo79 Posted June 16, 2006 #11 Share Posted June 16, 2006 We stayed at the Queen and Crescent on Camp Street in Dec 2003 for our Western Caribbean cruise out of NOLA. It was wonderful. Close to the pier (a 2 minute cab ride or if you feel like lugging your stuff, a 10 minute walk), and close to Bourbon Street. Very "New Orleans" feel. Does have VERY SMALL rooms, but they are functional and charming. Hope this helps!!
