Getting Cash From the Casino

Recommended Posts

On our previous nine cruises we've always been able to get cash at the casino for going ashore and tips. Just ret'd from 2 weeks on the Radiance. Went to the casino to get some $$ and was asked if we were playing slots or tables. I advised the clerk that I wanted $$ to go ashore and was (politely) directed to the two ATMs on board. Had DH try the same and he was met with the same response. No big deal as we had enough $$, but I wanted a few extra $$ "just in case". Usually don't add tips to our Seapass, but rather prefer to pay in cash. This time, waiters and cabin attendants got the pre-authorized gratuity vouchers and a few extra $$ in cash.

So for those of you who expect to receive cash in the casino be forewarned.

I have never received that response from the casino cashier...thanks to the OP for the heads up - if it happens on a future cruise, I will (politely) ask for the cashier's supervisor...

We always use the Sea Pass card to get cash at the casino because we also get double points on our RCI Visa Card.

Or . . . you could just say, "Yes." You wouldn't have to lie. Just put a quarter in a slot machine and you aren't lying!

I found it very easy to get cash from the casino. I just walked by a slot, put $20 in it and in a couple of minutes, and a few lights and bells, was handed $1000. At first I thought it was a mean trick, that they wouldn't let me keep it, but the next day, I walked by another machine, put $10 in, and there were those darn lights and bells again. This time they handed me $1100 and neither time wanted to know what I was going to do with it. Oh yeh, they also gave me a brand new T-shirt. Aren't they nice.

Same thing happened to us on the Radiance two years ago. I was caught off guard so I said I just needed cash. The cashier told me she'd do it that time, but no more. I now know how to answer the question. ;)

I agree with getting the cash and sticking one quarter in a slot machine and moving on. Of course, I don't do that. I sit and sit and give all of my money to the casino!

Think of it this way, the quarter is a lot cheaper than the ATM's $13.00 + fee.

We tried twice to get cash - first time I told them I was going to gamble and they asked slots or tables. I replied slots to which the clerk wanted to know quarters or dollars and I replied both. She gave me $$ in a mixture of dollars and quarters. When DH said he wanted $200 for the tables, he was instructed to use his Seapass card at the table.

Wasn't a big problem for us, but I just wanted to give other future cruisers on the Radiance a heads up of our experience.

He cahsier may have asked if you were playing slots or tables so he knew if you needed dollars do quarters, since most of the slot players play the quarter slots. Easiest thing to do in this case is lie and say you are playing the tables. I doubt this would be the case, but maybe he happened to be low on cash at the time.

Timing is everything folks..........or maybe I just look like I'm gambling:D . Went to the cashiers in the casino last month on the Mariner on a Friday evening at 8pm.........a sea day........certainly wasn't going to take cash on shore in the middle of the ocean..........asked for $200 on the sea pass and got 10 $20 bills and a "Good Luck"..........:D Used some in the casino and pocketed the rest............

If you need cash.......plan ahead.........nobody has ever asked me what it was for........on a sea day.:)

Last year on the Mariner, I was questioned when requesting cash at the casino. The teller gave it to me but didn't seem to believe that I would use it for gambling.

For those of you that don't get questioned, what amount of $$ are you asking for? Was my $200 request too much?

Also, isn't the casino only open when the ship is at sea? I guess the advice is to ask the morning or afternoon of a sea day instead of late in the evening with a port the next morning?

We have never had a problem. They even cashed our traveler's checks there. We usually only do $20-$50 at a time and she had seen us cash in some chips that might help. I use $20's in the slots anyway because it is easier than putting money in for every spin, can't imagine them giving quarters or dollars as per a previous post.

I have been asked the question about slots or tables on the Mariner. I take out between $500 to $1000 at a time each day the casino is open so I doubt $200 was too much. They will typically not give you cash for the tables due to chips being used on the tables. I always tell them slots and the slots gets at least 50% of my money. I am not about to put a quarter at a time into the slots. I may only play a quarter at a time, but I always put in at least a $20 bill until I am ready to leave the casino and then I might place a quarter in each machine as I pass it on my way out. That's assuming I have any winnings from the slots I was playing.

I use my sea pass card at the tables.

Jeez, I'm such a newbie that I had no idea we could use our seapass card for cash at the casino :o. When we needed cash, we went to the purser's desk and wrote them a personal check for $200 (the max per cruise). It was pretty convenient, but I'll definitely get it from the casino next time!
