Techie Posted May 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2006 From things I've been reading the city bus stops a bit of a distance from the Visitor Centre. My mother has problmes walking and can't walk far. How close does the bus from the cruise line get? Joan
CaribbeanBound Posted May 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2006 The buses will be very close to the ship. Worst case, you'll walk the length of the ship. Sorry to dissapoint, but there are no longer any whales at Mendenhall Glacier.
Sitka Posted May 18, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 18, 2006 you are right, the city bus stops a mile and a half from the visitor center. the bus from the cruiseline for the prepaid tours (those bought early or on the ship) goes right to the second parking lot. there are also tours or shuttles that you can purchase on the dock once you get off the ship, and those buses go to the first parking lot (which is very close to the 2nd parking lot). in sum, either way definately has less walking involved than taking the city bus. gosh i'm feeling helpful and knowledgable this evening! Budget Queen Posted May 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 18, 2006 For clairfication- the CITY bus stops a mile++ from the Mendenhall Visitor center, but there are SHUTTLE buses that leave from the dock, to the visitor center- $6 each way, and the only way to go with mobility limitations, between the two bus options.
